Hello all... Grin...!

Just a little query...Wink...!

First of all, is FSCC, (Flight Sim Scenery Creator), fully compatible with FS 2004...?

In the past, in FS 2002, I have been able to insert a NDB hut+aerial at a particular location, together with it's associated NDB frequency, which then appear both in the Scenery location, and also on the FS Navigator GPS moving map...Grin...!
...but...
At present, trying to do exactly the same thing in FS 2004 results in nothing appearing in the scenery, or on the map... Cry...!
...so...
Either FSCC is not compatible with FS 2004...
..or I am doing something wrong...(as usual!).... Embarrassed...!

As an alternative, I have tried to do exactly the same thing, using AFCAD, to install a visible NDB hut in existing scenery, together with it's associated NDB frequency....
...again, nothing shows up on restarting the sim... Shocked...!!

I pop the generated .bgl file(s) in to a "scenery" Folder, inside a "named" Folder, and perform the same method as you do for any other scenery add-on....with no luck...!

Is the problem with the design program...
...or is it me... Embarrassed...?
LOL...!

(I've been trying this for weeks now, with no bleedin' luck),,, Angry...!
LOL...!

Cheers Lads... Wink...!

Paul...with the Designer Blues... Wink...!

P.S. The reason...to increase the number of  radio navigation aids, en-route between Non Directional Beacons...(and VOR's)... Wink...!

P.P.S. Interestingly, I have dropped my old/existing FS 2002 FSCC NDB .bgl Folders into FS 2004 Scenery Folders, and they work fine...!!

Hello Fozzer
As for the navaids from fs2002 working in fs 2004 I do not see why they would not I am not aware of any part of the image not showing up like the aircraft that have missing propellers and jet engines. I seem to remember there was one program that is not fully compatable with fs2004 it is either FSSC or airports for windows I can not remember which. 8)

I just checked out the FSSC web site and that is the one I rember having problems with as well and could not get it to work for fs2004. Nowhere on the web site does it state it will or will not work for fs2004. Maybe someone else has had better luck with it. 8)

Hi Gary... Wink...!

Thanks for the reply... Grin...!

I vaguely remember FSCC being a very simple program for adding VOR's and NDB's to the FS 2002 scenery....!
I used to create my own airstrips using "Runway 3" and add NDB huts (with their associated radio frequencies) close by, to guide me in.... 8)...!
It doesn't seem to work in FS 2004....which is a shame... Cry...!

...and I still can't figure out why I can't do the same thing with AFCAD....Shocked...!
I plonk a NDB onto an existing runway (KHAF) and save it into the Scenery Folder, but a trip there shows zilch... nor does it appear in FS Navigator Cry...!

Paul why not go for the simple solution? Make the BGL containing the hut, NDB and whatever with FSCC in FS2002 and then use it in FS2004? You write that it works fine so why not do it this way?

No Paul. FSSC was never fully compatible with FS9. If I remember correctly Derek Leung was unable to carry on with it due to other commitments. I've not tried them myself but the later utilities are much better. RollerBall & Birdman* should be able to put you on the right track.

If you like FSSC make sure you have the latest version here. http://www.fssc.avsim.net/downloads.html

*PS. List of FS9 scenery programs here. http://www.ukscenerydesign.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3

It's worthy of serious thought, me ol' fruit... Grin...!

I still have FS 2002 installed and running, on my second Hard Drive, so providing the co-ordinates are the same in FS 2002 and FS 2004, that might do the trick... Grin...!
...save it in FS 2002 and drag it over to FS 2004...?
...sorted...?

Cheers Mate... Grin...!

Sorry but I don't see how that can possibly work. The BGL file will be exactly the same wherever you export it to.

I expect you need to use an FS9 scenery object that is not included in FSSC.

It's a funny old do, Doug...
But when I had FS 2002, I created the various NDB huts, (and their different associated NDB frequencies) with FSCC....
...worked fine...
Later, when I installed FS 2004. I dragged my FS 2002 NDB Folders over to my main FS 2004 Scenery Folder and enabled them, as you do, it worked a treat, I have them running now... Grin...!
What I cant do, is design import my new NDB's directly into FS 2004 using FSCC... Cry...!
...arse... Angry...!

So...

Crash's idea may work...?

Paul...my garden shed doesn't work as well...wrong frequency....too many Sheep... Cry...!

Hmmm. If it worked then it should work now. Have you got the same version of FSSC & is it set up in the same way? You should be able to create new NDBs with Afcad 2 but not the visual scenery (i.e. the hut).

I haven't messed around with scenery since FS2002 so I'm not familiar with the latest design tools. I no longer have FSSC installed so can't check it out.

Ah-Ha...!!

Thats the difference then...
Lovely old FSCC for FS 2002 had a selection of objects in it's large library, ready to use, (buildings, etc).... Grin...!

...as you mentioned, AFCAD doesn't seem to include the ready-made buildngs!!

My problem with AFCAD is that even tho' I place the location of the NDB near the existing runway, (with no actual building!), it still doesn't display the "Frequency" on the GPS map to enable me to tune the radios to it...Cry...!
...double arse...!

Paul "I love old fashioned NDB's" Fosbery... 8)...!

P.S. EGBS. Shobdon has one...so I never get lost... Grin...!

Afcad was never intended to work with 3D visual scenery objects. You should be able to use it to create new NDBs that display in FS9. Copied from Afcad 2 Help: Quote:
When you open an airport AFCAD will display all stock navaids in the vicinity of that airport and you can modify those navaids or add new ones.

AFCAD can work with all the types of navaids that Flight Simulator recognises, these are:

ILS (localizer, glide path and  DME)
Marker Beacons (OM, MM, IM, BC)
VOR and DME (but not TACAN)
NDB
When you add or modify a navaid the changes will appear in the Flight Simulator Map View and GPS windows and your aircraft instruments will recognise the changes.  There are, however, certain limitations with regard to navaid changes, as follows:

Creation: AFCAD can create any of the above navaids at any location.

Modification: AFCAD can move or modify any navaids that you create. It can also move or modify all stock navaids except for marker beacons, stock marker beacons cannot be changed in any way.  You cannot change the identifiers for any stock navaids but almost all other parameters can be changed.

Deletion: AFCAD can delete any navaids that you create, but it cannot delete any stock navaids.

The FSSC API macros should work fine in FS9. You should be able to place a suitable hut or aerial mast in the same location as the NDB.

P.S. If only I can get AFCAD working correctly to display my NDB frequency on the GPS map, I can drop a NDB hut and aeriel on top of the location with the aid of my EZ-Scenery program*... Grin...!

What an unbelievably Silly-Billy I am... Embarrassed...!

Every now and again I wake up in the middle of the night as an electric bulb lights up just above my head... Grin...!!

With reference to your "missing" newly installed NDB's using AFCAD, Fozz, have peek in your Default FS 2004 GPS map to see if they appear there...?
Lo and Behold they are there, (at least the radio frequencies are)... Shocked...!
Wowzers!... Shocked...!
So why don't they appear in my FS Navigator GPS map, I asked myself...?
Then I remembered, as the electric light bulb blinded me in the middle of the night....
I have to re-run the "FSNavDBC" program in Program Files, to allow it to insert my "new files" into the FS Navigator database... Wink...!!
...daft buggar...!
LOL...!

All I have to do now is the select the default NDB hut in my EZ-Scenery program, and drop it near the "NDB frequency" area in the airfield...
Sorted...
Grin...!

Result: The NDB details now appear on my FS 2004 Map, on my FS Navigator GPS map, and the actual NDB hut appears on the grass in my airfield... Grin...!

What a happy Bunny I am now... Grin... Grin... Grin...!

Cheers all...!

Paul "The Suitably Illuminated" Fosbery... 8)...!

The moral of this tale: Re-run the "FSNavDBC Database" after making any changes to the Simulator...Wink...!

...off down the Pub to celebrate... Grin...!

I still use FSSC for FS9. Matter-of-fact, I just finished-up a simple scenery project that I was working on a few years back for FS2002 before I got FS9 and forgot about it. I had some issues with excluding my AFCAD by mistake.
