Hi, I am interested in creating a small private fictional airport. I am new at this, this would be my first project. I am wondering which utility/tool to use, I don't have any yet and I just need to know which would be best for the job. If anyone has any ideas, please post. Thanks!

The programs available depend on your version of FS. I will list some freeware programs compatible with FS2004.

FlattEx-generates the code to flatten the area (required for runways, etc. to display properly) and exclude (remove) unwanted autogen and scenery objects.

Afcad 2.21-creates the airport facility so it is available in the FS airport list and visible in GPS and map. Creates the visible runways, taxiway, etc. Creates comm freqs. and nav freqs. and aids. It does not place scenery objects.

Rwy12 v1.2 Object Placer-Place buildings and other scenery objects to complete your airport and surrounding scenery. (5 download files: the program, 3 object libraries, and 1 document)

Except for Afcad, there are other programs available that do each of these tasks equally well. Noteably, Abacus EZ-Scenery (payware) allows you to place objects from within the FS flight screen. But, for your first project, these will do the job with a minimal learning curve.

Each of these programs requires a module to connect to FS for position. Read the documentation for each to determine what  module is required by each.

Sorry, I forgot to mention my version, I origionally posted it in FS2002, but it was apparently moved. I do use FS2002. Will these programs work for FS2002? Thanks.

For FS2002:

FlattEx will work.

Afcad: You'll need Afcad v1.4.0 for FS2002.

As for an object placer, those I mentioned above are for FS2004 only.

For FS2002, the 2 most mentioned are Airport and FSSC (Flight Simulator Scenery Creator).  Both are available from the SimV Scenery Design downloads.

I have not used either, so I leave it to others to make a recommendation on ease of use, etc.

...My choice would probably be Airport v2.60.120 as I know there are vast numbers of it's native 'api macros' ( pre-defined objects) available.
