Your Studio V is proud to present our first edition of the series "Screenartist Spotlight" This vignette will highlight specific members of Simviation, featuring their screenart, and a bit of insight into what makes them the fine screenartists they are. So up this week we spoke to Pete aka "Lemoncat" and here's what he had to say:

"Lemoncat"

Screenart coutesy of Lemoncat.

Flight simming is obviously one of your favourite hobbies. Can you
tell us what other interests and hobbies you have?
My other main interest is music iv'e been a collector of vinyl records for a number years,my favourites are 60s american and british psych and freakbeat, and everything in between from Hendrix to Pinky and Perky.
i play a spot of golf when i have time,
i like to read too....anything.
i like to get out to events when poss airshows ect and all the usual other things.
and finally the rest of my time is taken up by my six year old son matt..who is just brilliant.
What, in your opinion is the difference between a screenshot and
screenart?
I'd say the difference beetween the two are,, screenart can or does involve various editing methods (which i wish i had more time for)
and screenshot is all about taking raw screenies straight from a game or sim.
i would say screenart is the more difficult of the two..it can be a lot more time consuming but also a lot more rewarding
being able to create some stunning pics using those techniques.
you only have to browse the edited section of the forums to see that.
Lemoncat, there has been an explosion in the popularity of
screenart the last little while. There are even websites up now devoted
solely to the art of the screenshot. Why do you think that is?
Because it's a great way for people to show off their artistic talents to others,
everybody has a burning desire for being creative and art is something everybody can enjoy.
having fun and being creative at the same time...sounds good to me.
You seem to have established yourself here at SimV as a screenart
icon. Can you describe your screenshot style, what you like to accomplish
when putting a shot or a thread series to-gether?
It's really hard to describe your own personal style because you see things differently to how others see your work,
everyone has their own personal way of doing things.
i just try to be as creative as i can and am always trying to think of new ideas and fresh things to do,
i'm sure that goes for everyone else too.

With so many "first to find" threads, do you feel pressured to continually
be the forerunner in unveiling new freeware aircraft to the SimV community,
or is it something you enjoy doing regardless of your reputation?
I don't feel pressured at all it's just something i like to do.
i always take a quick trawl around to see if there's anything new out to try.
You've had tremendous success in SimV's monthly screenshot
competition with a win and several finalist nominations.
Can you describe how you set up a shot for SimV's monthly competition, and
what factors you'd attribute your unprecedented success to?
When it comes down to the comps i try that little bit harder for a good shot..it's made slightly easier
because we already know what we have to try and acheive..it's always a lot harder when it's just you and your own imagination.,
i find if i try too hard it never seems to work for me,i usually knock my shot off only when i feel the time and settings are right.
i never post a shot i'm not happy with myself...
What are some of the screenshot utilities you use? eg. FSSkyworld...
Suprisingly enough i don't use that much..i take my shots using fraps then resize in photoshop.
i like to try and keep things as simple as possible.
How important do you think it is to have a powerful computer for
producing high quality screenshots?
I don't think that matters at all, it's not what you've got it's how you use it that counts.
there's loads of people who don't have powerful systems but still take great screenies.
Can you offer a few words of advice to our less experiences
screenartists on how to take more effective, dramatic screenshots?
Don't get hung up and all stressed out..by far the best way is to relax and most of all enjoy
what your doing, don't be affraid to try new things out.
there's also loads of tutorials out there to read too...this can teach you a lot about setting your system up
for better performance, what the best addons to use.. allsorts of usefull information.
Do you think it's important to have a screenartist
mentor...another SimV member to help and guide you through the various
facets of becoming a "Master Screenartist"?
I don't think it's too important..but you can learn a lot just by simply watching what other people are doing.
i don't think anyone can really teach you..it comes from within each individual.
that's what art is all about, self expression.
if we were all the same then it would be pretty pointless.

Who are the SimV screenartists that have influenced you the most
and what is it about their style that you enjoy?
Everybody who posts shots at the v influences me..
ramsa..fitter..fly2..rollerball..waspiflab..tweek..soui...the list is endless
they are all brilliant artists in their own right.
Is there an individual screenshot or series of pics that stands out
for you as being your "favourite of all time", either your own work or
another members?
Now that is an impossible question...
there have been so many breathtaking shots from so many here..
there are litrally thousands of amazing sets of pics i just couldn't choose one favourite..
long may it continue, and keep on flying guys.
We'd like to thank you Lemoncat for taking some time with us and hopefully inspiring some of our younger screenshot artists. We'll always keep a keen eye out for your upcoming pics...
Watch for next weeks "Screenartist Spotlight" featuring our very own Eno....
