I had a 1979 Ford F-150 and it had 375,000 miles on it when I sold it.  The person I sold it to put another 125,000 miles on before he took it off the road.  It now reside at his mountain home and he uses it just to haul things around on his property.  It's all in how it's treated.  I know it's only my opinion but, I'll only buy Fords.

I saw one the other day where they finally managed to break a hilux. What they did was weld the doors shut as well as the bonnet, fill the wheel cavities with foam, put an outboard motor on the back and capsize it in a freezing cold lake

Yeah. But that was a petrol, not a diesel so they could share the fuel supply with the main engine and the outboard. The diesel version would have survived but the outboard would have died very quickly. Grin
