Hey all,
After the BBMF display at the airshow, quite a few of you wanted to start up a VBBMF (Virtual Battle of Britain Memorial Flight).
I said I'd put up a post about it - here it is
If you want to be part, say so, any suggestions etc on how to get this rolling?
(NOTE: this is unofficial, and if it's already been done, I suppose you might call this the SimV VBBMF
)

Why don't we Nemo? Those lads seemed to love your addition, and whoever winds up running the VBBMF probably wouldn't mind
So it's new, total name is....

would love to take part.
instead of making it a VBBMF, why not an RAF historical flight?? then you can use all of the RAF oldest and greatest, but have a small detachment that are the BBMF. then everyone is happy

Great idea
ill fly the Hurricane Mk IIa LE-D as i flew in the show.
We need more fighter jocks to get maybe a big fighter show going with brakes infront of the crowd and stuff
current list of active planes from BBMF site
Spitfire Mk IIa
Spitfire LF IXe
Spitfire Mk V B
Spitfire PRXIX x2
Hurricane Mk IIc x2
C-47

maybe add a jet division??

the vulcan was thrown in basically at the last minute, due to my pm'ing little charlie over a flight my dad had when he was in the raf, since the pm it was kept as a surprise until tonight
.
i can see this branching out into a few different eras though.

I'm still sticking with the Spit guys
For now, I'll use Paul Rebuffat's Mk IXc (probably here at SimV) but if anyone can find a decent Mk II/MK V spit I'll be a happy Charlie

kl kl, well, we would need to figure out which displays to do, how many pilots needed etc etc...
good historic flight, a hunter with 2 gnats either side. saw that a leuchars last year. sexy display.
i like the idea of a dog fight kinda thing. would be a nice touch.
next thing i suppose is, what woudl be in a RAF histrical flight?

The prudent plan would be to have more pilots than are always necessary, which would reduce the limitations of being unable to fly as "X" is unavailable that day, and having them able to fly different elements within the team...

Just took the Canberra PR.9 up for a spin. Nice aircraft to fly, and it would certainly be a good addition to some sort of historic flight!

Not hinting. Suggesting.
That's always if you have a historic flight with it, at times. As with the Vulcan at the show.
Else I'll gladly take up the position of one of the extra Spitfires

Okay so it seems we're forming an RAF Historical Flight are we?
If so, here are our suggestions for aircraft compiled into some form of list (we don't want too many):
BBMF aircraft
Canberra PR.9
Vulcan
2 x Hunter (?)
2 xGnat (?)
And one of my suggestions - a modern RAf aircraft to lead the pack (Hawk?)
And another suggestion: Mike Stone's C-130 (in RAF colours, there's bound to be an RAF paint out there somewhere)
We could set up for certain displays at certain SimV shows, like this time we had the BBMF, next time we could have the Hunters/ Gnats as Flymo suggested, another time we could have the Herc escorted by two or more fighters?
What do you guys think? I would imagine this list is plenty enough, as I said, we don't want too many aircraft or that would mean a lot of downloading (especially for those on 56k), plus we would probably have about 2-3 pilots for each aircraft (the pilots would take it in turns to fly in the RAF historical flighty-thing each airshow
)

if you guys don't mind, ill take up the team organiser position in my lancaster (its slow and so enables me to type stuff into the chat box
)
Can I just say that we don't want too many planes, as then no-one would be able to watch
If we perhaps start of with just the BBMF planes and the vulcan. If this is successful, we can begin to add new historic jets to the line-up.
So as it stands the positions are;
Spitfire Mk IIa - Available
Spitfire LF IXe - Cspyro21
Spitfire Mk V B - Available
Spitfire PRXIX - Tweek
Hurricane Mk IIc - Serpent_6
C-47 - Heathaze
Chipmunk - Available
Lancaster - Mictheslik
Vulcan - Nemo
Theres only 1 chipmunk cos lets face it, theyre pretty dull
)
Just to say, anyone suggesting dogfights in my opinion can leave now, Dogfights almost always end up failing with people doing ridiculously unrealistic manoevres.
As for the historic jets issue, maybe in the meantime a seperate display can be set up, but at the moment the SimVuVBBMF consists of the above planes doing formation flying between individual displays.
So if anyone wants to join up say here what you would like to fly!
On a second thought it might be good to set up a website, I can do this on Myspace.com as its easy but if anyone wants to set up a half decent one then PM me and Ill tell you the details.
Thanks for reading, I hope you all agree!
.Mic
PS What have i started?

Sounds good enough Mic, start small as they say
Anyway, I found a Mk IXe Spit on Avsim, by Paul Rebuffat (yay
), so perhaps that would make things more realistic
EDIT: you've started the best MP formation flight I've seen

I would take up the Chipmunk and be unique... but I'll take a Spitfire. Gonna see what repaints there are for Paul Rebuffat's collection.
Found a PR.XIX, so I'll take that position 8)

Ain't itg great?
Anyway, I'll say my suggestion is for the future, when perhaps we can expand on what we have. For now, Mic, we'll go with your's
I'm going to see if I can paint (or if there is a paint) for Paul's Mk IXe in the BBMF colours.

And just in case you missed it, check my above post for a link to the PRXIX. I'll be flying that, if I can!

on the hunter and gnat thing, the display i saw was one hunter, with a gnat either side.
i think it should be included cos they are both sweet aircraft.
i would gladly fly one of the gnats.
i think we should leave out the typhoon at all coutns cos its jsut ugly.

By the way guys, I'll be using Paul's Mk IXc as this model has clipped wings like the BBMF's IXe, so it would look somewhat more realistic.

For now can we cut the jet talk, unless you want to start a new thread about a new group
And about the formation thing, charlie is the lowest level, you have to be better than charlie to join (hows that?)
I just downloaded the other one, oh well thats four new spits that I have added today!

OK I now have a seperate Forum set up. I have included sections for the BBMF and a Historic Military jet Group. If one or two people could come forward as moderators, and I need 1 person to be in charge of the HMJG that would be good.

I'd love to be involved with this, historic British types are my thing after all. I'll take the Spit V if it's not gone or I can fly the Hawker Typhoon that I brought to the airshow. I'd love to fly the Sea Fury, but it is a frame rate hog.
