The Soviets began the blockade of Berlin that then turned into the 24 hour flight service.
Basically the Cold War took off.

    * 972 - Battle of Cedynia, near Cedynia. Polish forces have had their first documented victory.

Well, you did manage to include the proper event for June 24, 1948. I was intending a more localized reference but, I suppose, the whole universe is round about it.
