Nicks Lightfix Version 2 (Read 500 times)

It was just released...

RESOLVED ISSUES

Issue #1: In the original Nick’s Light-Fix I did not take into account that many aircraft manufactures use the same texture file (halo.bmp) which FS9 uses for airport lights. Because the scale of my airport lights texture replacement was large it caused oversized lights to appear on some aircraft. This update resolves the issue so both airport and aircraft lights are in their proper scale.

Issue #2: Some people found my original replacement tower/smokestack lights too large in scale. This package includes an option to install a reduced scale light for towers and smokestacks. Be aware that although the small tower light texture provides proper scale, the sight distance will significantly drop. If you prefer to be able to see tower lights from a long distance, install the LARGER tower and Ground beacon lights provide in this package. They will appear too large when viewing within 20-50ft but are much easier to see from a distance like real tower lights.

Issue #3: The aircraft beacons and strobe lights have been redesigned so every aircraft being rendered in the sim does not flash the lights at the same time. This greatly enhances the illusion of each plane running individual lights and makes the simulation more realistic.

Included in this package is xenon landing light effects of my own design. It is designed to eliminate the nasty, butt-ugly, over-bright, yellow, FS9 triangle-shaped aircraft lights and replace them with a softer and more realistic xenon lighting FX. Because of my unique texture design the landing lights FX will appear different (different brightness and overall look) on different aircraft. The texture gives an excellent night-time busy airport look from the tower and the air and provides a great landing light for the aircraft being flown.

Small question: did you test it on the Project Tupolev planes too, as they tend to produce very different results compared to normal FS9 planes when changeing landing light FX

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here

I can not possibly test every aircraft ... you can test it.. you can install just the landing lights from my package and revert back easily.

or...
post a link to the aircraft and I can look at it..

That looks nice, Nick. An off topic question, but which AI do you use?

I am downloading the latest Project Tupolev and the updates for it now.. when I get it installed I will post screenshots of the lights edited into this post:

EDIT:

The FX works with the plane but there are problems and I see why too. The model file has the landing lights improperly aligned. The model will not work with a texture that is not designed to be directional and specific for the angle of the light on the model. That was a mistake on the part of the model designer. To fix it requires the construction of a special landing light for the Project Tupolev aircraft or the inacuracy in the model be fixed

EDIT:
I REMOVED IMAGES TO REDUCE THE SIZE OF THE THREAD TO COMPLY WITH FORUM RULES.

It still looked OK with my add-on but its a shame not much attention was paid to the landing light positions in the model file

OK thanks!
Besides, I have already found it also on another site.
A site which I understand is not much loved here.
"You know which one I'm talking about".
I'm telling Nick in case he doesn't know.

This image demonstrates why most landing light textures do not work with this model. The designer needs to fix this problem:

is that with the lights extended or retracted?

LOL!!!

I dont read Russian,,, Normally hittiing the "L" key will extend the light housings. I will reboot the plane and see if there is a difference by using the panel switches and post back.

EDIT:
I see the light housings will not extend by using the L key... My landing light texture works fine with the PT aircraft. I thought it quite strange the aircraft developer would have overlooked the landing light angles  LOL!!

Thanks for correcting my assuption  Grin

On another note, when I added my exhaust FX I found the engine location data to be inaccurate with the model...

They have the engines located @:

Engine.0=-41.165, -10.500, -4.400
Engine.1=-52.765, 0.000, -3.800
Engine.2=-41.165, 10.500, -4.400

The correct positions are:

Engine.0=-41.165, -10.000, 4.400
Engine.1=-52.765, 0.000, 7.800
Engine.2=-41.165, 10.000, 4.400

There is a typo in the engine lines... the elevations (last number) should not be negative and the center engine needs to come up 4 feet.

The site I'm talking about is not one of those four, but it's ok, since you are comfortable with it.  Smiley
