Funny that, I distinctly remember a recent press release from Microsoft which categorically stated that FSX was indeed backward compatible. In-fact, I think the statement was published on this site.

Although I won't be buying FSX, I hope they don't model it on CFS3. It'll be scaled wrongly, have the worst dynamics yet seen in any sim, and generally be sh1te.

Here's some more advice:
Don't tug on Superman's cape,
Don't spit into the wind,
Don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger,
And don't mess around with these programs when they first come out... Grin

I agree, though, with Katahu- I'm bewildered by the slavering frenzy over this, and the real anxiety caused by these rumors... maybe I'm just older and mellower, but I plan to enjoy FS9 on my new rig for quite some time, happily flying while all the trendies cuss and swear over what will likely be a difficult transition, what with the advent of DX10 and Vista at the same time.

Good luck!!! Grin

Another downside to the rumors is that they tend to bring up far too many expectations. As a result, the user will be disappointed once FSX is released and then the arguements will start pouring in short after. Thus resulting in the inevitable "reminders" that seasoned fans have to post on forums like these in order to qwell the arguements.

It's like a never-ending cycle that has certain number a phases.

Phase 1: Short after the release of a new simulator, some consumers start pouring out ideas for the next sim while some start complaining about the sim [which is just as inevitable].

Phase 2: The company that makes the simulator then starts implimenting the ideas provided by the consumers.

Phase 3: The company then announces the next sim.

Phase 4: Consumers then either criticise or welcome the new additions. As a result, rumors start flying [whether they are good or bad].

Phase 5: Expectations start to go too high until the next sim comes out.

Phase 6: The sim comes out. Either people criticise it or people welcome it.
Repeat for the duration of the franchise!

This is what I have observed from most FS forums over the past 5 years.
