The MAY Screenshot Contest!
This month's Prize and Contest is
centered all around World War II Powerhouses!
May's Theme is entitled...
WW II AIRCRAFT !
To qualify for this month's theme,
Your shot must include an aircraft of your choice
that was used during WW II.
It must be a Prop Driven, single or multi-engined aircraft!
NO JET POWERED AIRCRAFT WILL BE ACCEPTED!
If You do a search for WW II Aircraft on
Google
,
You will be able to see what aircraft were
involved during the WW II time period.
So do some research before posting your shot!
Please see example below...
David Copley's P-38 Lightning over photo-real area of New Zealand.
Since this month's contest is
centered around Powerful
WWII Prop Driven Powerhouses,
What better a prize than
one of the most unique
aircraft of that time...
The P-38 Lightning...
"Glacier Girl"
Back from the Ice...
Thanks
again

THE RULES
Here are the rules... Any questions or comments should be directed to a judge and will be answered at the earliest available opportunity. Any contestant judged to have violated these rules will have his entry removed and be disqualified.
Please start a thread for your entries for each member...
Most of all, HAVE FUN!
Contest starts May 11, 2006
and ends June 5, 2006.
1.
This contest will run from May 11, 2006 until June 5, 2006.
Entries submitted after Midnight on June 5, 2006 EST will not be accepted. Judging will occur after June 5, 2006 and the
8 Finalists will be entered into the POLL
that will be posted soon after! Now the Members will cast their vote in the Poll to determine this month's winner!
2.
Open only to SimV forum members registered before
May 1, 2006.
This is to prohibit registering multiple user names to allow more entries. It is also enforced to keep people who are not regulars at this forum, from joining just to try to win the monthly prize! Sorry and better luck next time!
3.
All images Must BE 800 WIDE and NOT SMALLER THAN 600 HIGH!!
Since many machines run at higher resolutions, the 600 high rule has been eliminated! However, Your image may not be smaller than 800 X 600!
Example: A machine running at 1280X1024 will give you an image of 800X640 when reduced which is perfectly acceptable!
No cropping, editing or adjusting your shot!! Any images over 100 kb in weight, and being smaller than
800 wide and 600 high
will not be VALID! This rule is now being enforced since
This is a Screenshot Contest and we "want to see the RAW shot!"
All entries must be uploaded to SimV.
***
No linking to other sites is allowed and is STRICTLY ENFORCED!!
***
YOU CAN ONLY USE A FREEWARE SCREENSHOT CAPTURE PROGRAM!
Active Camera, Walk & Follow are NOT allowed!!
***
4.
ONLY ONE ENTRY PER MEMBER!
Each contestant must start their own thread in the Screenshot Contest forum with their shot!
Your
entry must be included in this thread.
5. Screenshots from FS98, FS2000, FS2002, FS2004, CFS series only please!!
6. Once an entry is submitted, it may not be withdrawn. This is to keep the confusion to a minimum, and to maintain forum integrity. Entries may be withdrawn from the contest, but no additional entries from that member will be accepted.
7.
Entries may be of freeware aircraft and scenery only!
This keeps the playing field even!
8. Entries may not be edited in any way. Any entry discovered to have been edited will be disqualified and the image removed from the contest.
9. All images must be produced specifically with the intent of entering them in this contest. No screenshots previously posted images or pre-contest images will be accepted.
10. After the contest has ended and the judges have decided on the "Finalists", a "POLL" type thread will be started entitled, "Screenshot Finalists, Vote Now!" It will explain that the Poll will be closed within 48 hours. You must note the
Post Time
of this thread to know when it will close! This will allow the members to now vote for their favorite shot from the ones the judges have picked!
11. After 48 hours from the time the Finalist Announcement is made, the POLL will be closed and the Winner announced!
A REQUEST
We would like to ask the Author of each screenshot, to please supply us with the name & designer of the Aircraft in your post. So many people always ask "what aircraft is that", and We think it would be very informative for many of us if it were right there under the shot!
Thanks...
Remember, You Signed...
The Oath!
Good Luck to All and Thanks for playing!

Anyhow, it's a nice theme. I'll prefer it to airliners, that's for sure!

NO
,
That is a new rule!!!!!!!!
It has been determined that allot of the people who just pop in here to compete and do not read the rules, are the ones that cause the most grief during the competition.
This contest was created for our users, not those who come here just to win a prize!
Last month there were over a dozen posts from newbies posting only to compete! They had only 1 post and seamed to have no regard for the site's guidelines and just posted a shot.
Then came the "That does not count, blah, blah, blah.."
I want to avoid it this time.
We are actually thinking for next month's comp to keep it still at the April 1, 2006 date therefore requiring TWO months prior registration before competing!
It will be simple, if somebody posts a shot who has not registered prior to April 1, 2006, it will simply be deleted!
No warnings, no edits of their post, a simple delete!
The reason, they obviously have not read the site rules!

YAY, another great theme, what a contrast to last month!!
Now then, just got to get my picture worked out. I'm thinking a Learjet 45, set at Fly Tampa's Dubai scenery, in 400x1800 resolution taken with a really cool W&F angle. What do you think?

Thje only problem with that is that you registered prior to April 1, 2006.
So I guess your entry would not be legal!

Dave is happy that Staiduk ran away giggling or Dave may have been beaten to a pulp by Staiduk when he told him that the P-38 is free and available here on Simviation and the Photoreal scenery is also free.

Hopefully you don't think of a new rule next month.

Y'know you could make the shot even better by making sure it is not only over the SimV 100kb limit, but that it's over Photobucket's limits aswell.
Also, if you could edit the picture & contravine some sort of copyright somewhere I'm sure it could only help. Maybe you could do an F14 with Tom Cruise jumping up & down on the seat like a lunatic (with Oprah as Navigator).
I'd vote for that.

Hmm, here's a query for the contest organisers:
"To qualify for this month's theme, your shot must include an aircraft of your choice that was used during WW II."
Strictly speaking, that would include a Tiger Moth being used for local freight delivery in Madagascar in November 1939. It would have nothing to do with the war itself, but it was "used during WW II" so would it qualify? Or does it need to be a plane that was directly involved in the war?
(This is all hypothetical, I have no idea whether there really were any Tiger Moths operating in Madagascar in 1939.)

Sorry for those guys posting here regulary, but being registered a tad too late, but you have to understand, that with all the trouble we had last month, such a decission was urgently needed. Practice a bit, take some shots, compare them to the finalists shot, so that you can take a good start, when you are allowed....
Dave, I love you, and the other judges.... Great theme, It´s not only OTU´s alley.... This will for sure get some great entries in....
Looking forward to take some shots, see others entering better shots....
Have fun all !

can we use a WW2 plane even if the texture wasnt used in the war? the best detailed plane is a JU-52 package, I know the germans used it in the war but i dont have any textures from ww2. I think.
Edit: also want to check, had another idea.. can i use a prop driven aircraft with jet assistance? (the B-36H)

The way the rules are written, any of the restored warbirds flying today are eligible. As long as it actually flew during the war, it's in. A repaint shouldn't be a problem. It doesn't even have to be a combat plane - the RAF was using Tiger Moths to train pilots before they went on to fly Spitfires!

here are some dates dealing with the b-36 flight
The first prototype XB-36 flew on August 8 1946.
A second aircraft, the YB-36, flew on December 4 1947
The first B-36 variant meant for normal operation was the B-36B, delivered beginning in November 1948.
and finally WWII ended in 1945.
So the B-36 would not count

This has been driving me insane for a while now...but I've gotta speak my mind before it drives me even worse.
Don't get me wrong, the screenshots for this months comp are stunning...my shot hasn't got a hope in hell...
...But why god why...are some of you asking why certain aircraft, are not in their theatre of operations in the screenies?? WHO THE HELL CARES??!! So what if an RAF B-25 with D-Day markings appears over a tiny atoll in the pacific ocean...so what if a Japanese dive bomber appears over El Alamein in North Africa...so what if a hellcat appears over the european continent...it aint about what theatre the aircraft served in. The whole idea is just a world war 2 aircraft, in a screenshot with some great scenery to really make it stand out...it doesn't matter where in the world it is. I can understand the fact that it helps emphasize the situation it's in, but why complain? Just let it be.
Now that I've got that off my chest...im off to grab a nice cold pint of guiness. Thank you for your time everybody

I aggree totaly with you, blacksheep. There is nothing in the rules regarding the setting of the picture, just has to contain an authentic WWII prop driven aircraft. Therefore, a Spitfire taking off from modern day Heathrow would still count!

Black- sheep, you're absolutely right, IMHO, its completely irellevant if the setting is right or not.

Thank God that finally somebody said it!! Over here we have a saying: "Don´t be more papist than the Pope". I think that is what´s happening now.
Anyway, just wanted to add my 2 cents. Good luck to everybody in the contest, I think we all agree that there are some great shots this month.
And yes, I would also like to invite you gentelmen (show your id please, no minors
) to a bottle of one of the finest beers in the world (not just my saying, it has won some international medals and contests and stuff):

Welcome to Simviation mrjake2002!
Unfortunatly, you can't enter this month as you registered after the May 1st deadline. However, you're free to enter next month's contest, so stick around, enjoy some screenshots and start practicing for June!
Most importantly however, be sure to read the contest guidlines at the begining of this thread. We've had a few dificulties with people missing those lately.
