At night when landing I have a heck of a time seeing the lights of the runway. And after landing I can't hardly see the runway at all let alone turning off on a taxi way. The red lights I can see somewhat but those blue ones are way to dim. I know that in real life there a lot brighter because when I run to the nearest store I have to pass right by the end of a real runway and it looks all lit up nice. My monitor is set just fine. I was wondering if theres a fix for that somewhere? Thanks and HAPPY SUMMERTIME!  Shocked  Wildie.

There are several downloads that will alter the lights on the run way there might even be some here at simviation just go to the download section and look. you can also find a huge library at www.avsim.com you have to register in order to download anything but it is free and they do not give your ID to other companies to send you a ton of junk email. Just rember before you change anything in your sim to back up your orignal files first and be carefull of programs that self install there are some out there that do not work correct and they can cause problems for you. 8)

I know that the runway lights can be altered in size by tweaking fs9.cfg, but possibly they can only be REDUCED, not made bigger; I'm not sure though.
To raise the point of view you can use a nice little add on like f1view, though it's a bit like cheating  Wink

You can use AFCAD to make the lights as bright or as dim as you want. Just open the airport and double click the runway and change the setting to High under the lights tab.

but to change every airport you want to go to so that the runway lights are brighter, that would take far too long to be practical.

and does anyone find that the landing lights on aircraft just stop you being able to see the runway markings, they cover the area, instead of light it up. its very annoying

cheers

Yes, I've found the landing and taxi lights to be not much more than a nuisance and not at all like real life.

In any event, to make the night taxi job easier, I normally select the external (spot) view and back it off a bit to get a satisfactory view.

There does exist a mod to make the lights "dimmer" so that everything shows up better.

I just remembered: I save everything I download!

I am getting ready to release an update on my LightFix package which will include a spotlight replacement which is designed to mimick xeon lighting and a much softer illumination instead of a big white triangle.

It will be about a week.

The problem with airport lights, as I discovered, is that many aircraft manufactures use the halo.bmp (used for airport ground lights) for aircraft. My original package did not take that into account and the update will also address that issue.
