Unanswerable question - "as good as FSDS doing what?"

FSDS lacks many (most) of the powerful modelling tools that gamx has.  However, unless you want to make super-detailed spiral staircases, FSDS3 is more than adequate.

There is problem creating certain effects (landable surfaces, etc., with the new FS2004) that gmax/3DSMAx can handle with the "attachtool" script.  So, yes, there are differences.

FSDS (or any modelling program) also has a learning curve, although *I* find it easier  (but I'm getting to the point where I can make funny things in gmax...)

In general, gmax is the more powerful modelling program.  However, if you're creating objects to place them in scenery libraries and placing them with EZ-Scenery, you may actually find the overall process easier with FSDS3.

Good luck.

FSDSv3 is easier to learn but less powerful than Gmax.
Gmax is more powerful but harder to learn than FSDSv3.

In an ideal world there would be a system that is as easy as FSDSv3 and as powerful as Gmax, but so far it hasn't happened.
