I'm on the verge of getting FSDS3 from Abacus, and I notice they have it bundled with VASS as an option on their website. Since I've already got FSRepaint, is VASS going to be that much use to me? What exactly does it do that FSDS3 and FSRepaint don't already cover?

They're both (VASS and FS REpaint) from the same developer (Jorge Luis Sanotor, of Brazil).
VASS works with the SOURCE file (*.fsc) and allows you to actually ASSIGN the textures to your source file, and adjust the coordinates, etc. OTherwise, it's the same functionality.
In your case, it's a matter of when do you want to do your detailed texturing - while you're still building the model, or after you've built and placed basic textures and have compiled the model.
It's a matter of choice.

Thanks for this info, Felix . . .
I too bought FSDSv.3 about a month ago but haven't had time to look at it (too busy golfing and enjoying the outdoors).
I'm a registered user of FSRepaint so will be checking out this VASS thing.
P.S. Here's yesterday's repaint

I presume you're not getting Rick's 748 showing up in FS Repaint?

If you already have FS Repaint!, other than the ability to work with the source files, you don't gain much with VASS. You will generally assign the textures within FSDS and then do the detail painting outside.
