Hey folks. Anyone experience this?

When I try to disconnect from a MP session FS9 will quit responding. Have to go to Task Manager to end FS9.

Any suggestions? Thx in advance.

Hi Fireman, I had this a while back. After I re-installed SP2 on XP the problem vanished! Might be worth a try Wink

That is a characteristic that shows up when someone who is currently connected to the multiplayer session does not have the ports configured correctly.  It will happen intermittnetly when this situation is present on the server you are flying on.

It's a pain in the butt....and you lose the opportunity to log the flight in the logbook.

best,

It's happened everytime on any server I use. And trust me, I have checked and rechecked ports in my router. Even added a couple that I feel I don't need.

Before I unistalled FS9 many mos. back, it all worked fine. So I am puzzled.

It wouldn't be a big deal except for the fact that if the server has a "Hiccup", it will lock up FS9 and I have to go to Task Manager to end FS9.

Thanks for the advice though. Guess I could try to disable Windows firewall and see if it's there.

Later pilots.

Fireman,

No.... not YOUR ports....... someone ELSE's ports.  Grin

And it happens all the time because I estimate that at least 50% of the people flying online don't really understand opening ports.

THEY get connected...and don't really care what happens to others.

Thx John,

Well, I double, triple checked MY ports and everything is ok.

It could be what you said, who knows.

But I might try the SP thing mentioned. I know my system ran fine with no problems before. Disconnected as it should, and if server "hiccupped", I could easily reconnect. NOT NOW though. lol

Thx for the input John, Ozzy.

Fireman,

Whenever I am online on a sever with only a group of "pilots" that I know are serious online type folks who are well aware of port opening....my sim connects and disconnects just fine (btw....I run Windows Live Update...so all the latest crap from Uncle Bill is installed including SPII Wink ).

However when a name shows up on the "joined" list ....and they are clearly a bit new to the multiplayer thing...... it is THEN when I too get the "lock ups" you mention.  In fact, when someone JOINS with ports not correctly set up.... that is often the cause of getting disconnected.  So it is a "double whammy".

We all know about the "All players were not able to connect" messages when somone with ports not open is already ON the server.  That one at least is not as "offensive" an issue.  Except it prevents you from flying on that server.

HOPEFULLY this is one of the things that Microsoft has addressed in the new FSX simulator........  along with the "Flour Bombs and floating targets" they've added.

best,

.........john

Thx John,

I have intentionally gone to an empty server and it still does it.

I will probably try repairing XP from the disc and then reinstalling SP2 and the hotfixes. Don't know yet, might just live with it for a bit.

Fireman,

Weird.  I've never seen that happen.

Maybe it has something to do with the server setup?  I know that on Jared's hosted flights on the South American Tour.... I can never get my AIBridge program (injects multiplayer traffic into the AI traffic table in fs2004) to work.  But I can fly for four or fivce hours on other servers with it connected...... and it works just fine.

Another "mystery" of fs2004.  Hopefully this gets fixed in FSX (along with flour bombs).

best,

...................john
