When searching for add on scenery for my local airport, Shannon, I was appalled at what I read on FS98 Scenery page 44, http://www.simviation.com/fs98scenery44.htm, where a Mr. George Green states that Shannon airport is the closest airport in Britain to the USA. It's hard to believe that someone took the time to create scenery for Shannon airport without bothering to find out what country it is in.

SHANNON AIRPORT IS NOT IN BRITAIN! IT IS IN THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND.

Please correct this grievous mistake immediately as it will cause offense to any Irishman or Irishwoman who reads it.

It also says:

"Shannon airport is located 24 miles away from Limerick in the west of Ireland."

You should be grateful to have the scenery. The slight mistake in the description is irrelevant.

It depends on the definition of "Britain". It doesn't say Great Britain, nor does it say the United Kingdom...

Ireland is however, part of the British Isles, so technically Britain, is it not...

Quote:
The British Isles is a geographical and ecological term for the archipelago of islands off the northwest coast of Europe, including Great Britain, (the largest island in the group), the Isle of Man, Ireland, and several thousand smaller adjacent islands. The geographical term British Isles is not synonymous with the United Kingdom, since it includes the crown dependencies such as the Isle of Man, and (usually) includes the Republic of Ireland.

Anyway, as for the last statement, if it was that offensive to Irish people, why hasn't it been mentioned before, on this, a very multinational FS site? Roll Eyes

Welcome to SimV Praha... Smiley

Especially as it's a scenery that will be nearly 10 years old.

Wouldn't it be easier to overlook what is obviously a small mistake, download George Green's Shannon Airport scenery, use it & enjoy it - & in the meantime maybe show George Green some gratitude for taking his own time to create the scenery & uploading it for anybody to use free of charge.

PLEASE Praha, next time you write "add-on", use the hyphen.  It is very offensive to those of us who try to use proper grammar in our everyday lives when we have to make an attempt to decipher what people are trying to say.  It took me close to ten minutes to figure out what this "add on" meant before I realized it was missing a simple "-".  Please, fix this atrocious, deplorable, cataclysmic, and pernicious mistake before it offends any sane person who reads such a blemish on the english language.  Thanks.

I find it hard to believe there are actually people like Praha who would get this worke dup over something so small, especially when they should be showing gratitude-so I'm calling BS.  This has got to be a joke.  I'm seriously hoping its one, at least.

Well I'm half-Irish and it doesn't worry me. Pete our glorious webmaster is entirely of Irish stock and if he was okay about it (and he would have the greatest right to be offended as both his parents are Irish) then I think Praha needs to take a couple of valium and calm down! Just lay off the Red Bull is my advice Wink

Why is it called a "add-on"?

It installs into FS9 so shouldn't it be a "Add-in" ???

They could be applicable to those things, however, I was using them as adjectives to describe the mistake that was made.  And, you read it didn't you? Wink

Also, what do those of us who reside the United States of America call ourselves.  American? Can't really, that encompasses two whole continents.  United Statesian? Errr, never heard that one before.  Wisconsinian? Nope.  How about U.S.A.ish?  Not gonna happen.  I just don't know. ??? Grin Wink
