The big news of this year is obviously going to be the lauch of the A380, but whilst this is a major achievment, why have airbus missed out the A360 and A370 line of production. Are there any ideas what these may eventually be. An A320 Replacement for one and possibly an A330 or B767 competitor for the other?

I just thought it would be an intriguing debate, as the the motives for this move.

Cheers Rich

The A350 is in the works and right now Airbus is really panicking about it because its getting completely trounced by the 787.

A380 - its all in the "8"...

A few ways to look at it:

1) The A340 is a single deck, 4 engined airliner - the A380 has two decks, hence A380...

2) If a fuselage cross section can be shown as a "o", then "8" is two "o"s on top of each other...

3) A380 sounds a lot bigger than anything else Airbus make...

All in the marketing...

And, of course, the 787 Wink

Roll Eyes We have the A380...
The A350 can be far better, I agree, but not with the constant whining of the buddies up in DC about launch funds.
Dont want to start an argument or discussion, but I want Boeing to bring the WTO into this... Grin

I like Boeing... I'm married to Airbus though.

The A380 means diddly squat in the 787 A350 battle. Right now Airbus are really desperate to get european money to pay for it. They started out not worried about the 787 then suddenly it was selling so well airbus has had to rush to try and get some sales from the market.
