On this day 24 years ago HMS Sheffield was sunk. A sad day indeed, but at least it wasn't one of the carriers, or at that stage, the Atlantic Conveyor...

On a lighter note, today is the 53rd anniversary of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (the Queen's husband for those who don't know) gained his RAF Wings, having completed 3 solo circuits at RAF White Waltham. I wish you only had to do 3 solo circuits today! Grin

Sheffield was sunk as revenge for Belgrano which had been taken to the bottom of the Atlantic a few days earlier.
A terrible loss.
I just read about HRH getting his wings from a junior officer on the BBC website oddly enough Grin
