I was wondering, I have searched the net and am looking for a few responses on the subject.
What is a good navigation tool or software?
I am looking for a simple way to "see" where I am at.
Some aircraft do not come with GPS and often find myself having to go to "map" thus pausing my sim.
I am looking for a stand alone "moving map" that can work in any type of aircraft. Mostly for Bush flying. I am not looking for something with SIDS and NAVS, etc...
Just a simple "click this button and I can see where I am moving in real time".
Any good suggestions?

It's free for a while....So many plan,exports.
But it will give you an idea as to whether or not you want it.
It exports for PMDG and LDS 767 etc.

Yes, I have seen that but like I said, a bit "much" for flying a beaver around the wilderness.
Are there options to see terrain?
Can you shut off all the data and just "see" where you are going?
etc....
Basically what I am looking for is some sort of GPS type thingy that I can see terrain, rivers, water and airports.
Thanks again!!

Ground elevation is given Kinda like this...^2500,Like you would see with the default GPS without terrain turned on.
No rendering of actual hills and valley's...
Some one else had one Dave but I just cant' remember where I saw it.
The only other thing is Reality XP's Sandel ST3400....
http://www.reality-xp.com/products/ST3400/index.htm
But with that you need to modify the .cfg's! Unless your plane is the list of ones already done by somebody.

I'd go down the FSNav route ....... More functionality not only for VFR flying but IFR also. All the information you need just by mousing over an Airport, NDB,VOR, or intersection.
Distance, flyto heading, altitude, runway length, ILS headings and frequencies and you can plan a flight from gate to gate.
It can also be used as an autopilot should VFR turn to IFR.
With additional free modules flightplans can be exported to PMDG and LevelD etc. You can also export to FS9 and use the default GPS.
Well worth the dosh.

I have...
It's fun.
To be honest, since I fly short jumps, I either use the default GPS (one of the settings is a topgraphical display). Other than than, I toggle EZ-VFR (shows names and other information of airports within range) and/or EZ-Landmarks (ditto for towns, lakes, etc).

A moving map? for bush flying? Shame on you... what you need is some good VFR charts. You should
know
where you are, not
see
where you are...
I know the real thing isn't exactly expensive, but for fllights in the USA, I go here...
http://skyvector.com/
... and zoom, scroll, capture with irfanview, crop and stitch as needed... I often print them but eventually I'll install a utility that allows part of a sectional to be viewed as an FS9 window (seen a few out there).
Not as handy as a moving-map display, but all the info is there and the terrain detail is good. Too good for FS, but it works out pretty well.
But to each his own- I just feel more like I'm planning a flight when I'm drawing lines on a sectional.
What I'd really like is a ute that displays the chart and can be scrolled... that would be awesome.

I'd go for a mark 1 hi level chart and a nice low level chart...
Can't go wrong with them, they aren't dependant on FSUIPC (sp.) and are just as cheap...
