Wow, did we miss the 25th anniversary of the first Space Shuttle launch?  It happened April 12th, 1981, the day my brother was born. Grin Wink

Nope, we didn't miss it.  I posted it under Ozzy's "space race" topic (with a couple pictures and everything).

However 25 years ago today, on April 14, 1981, astronauts John Young and Robert Crippen successifully landed the Space Shuttle Columbia at Edwards Air Force Base in California concluding the 2 day STS-1 flight, the first space shuttle mission in history.

LOL, thats OK man-I miss things all the time.   8)

I was actually planning on posting a big thing on the 12th about the Vostok 1 flight on 4/12/1961 and the STS-1 flight on 4/12/1981 but Ozzy beat me to it and mentioned the Russian Vostok 1 mission which put the first man in space.  So, I just added the shuttle to that.   Wink

I used to work for NASA at Edwards.  The first time I saw a shuttle, I was awestruck.  You end up getting used to it.  The only shuttle I was allowed to get close to was Enterprise.  I litteraly stood underneath it's wings.  Been in the Shuttle 747.  Pretty cool experience.

I was only at NASA for 6 months becuase it was an internship through the school I was attending.  My wife decided she hated living in the desert, so that was the end of my NASA career, but I'm never forget those 6 months.
