Was a little disapointed when they said it was not going to be 64 bit, but the rest sounded pretty good.

Too me, I had the opposite reaction. A lot of people still can't afford 64-bit processors, so obviously M$ is trying to make FSX as compatible with as many "current" systems as possible if they want to keep their promise regarding backwards compatibility.

I was a little disappointed about the 64 bit thing too.  I was seriously hoping that fsX was going to be a "lightyear" jump from fs2004.  64 bit would have held GREAT promise for processor intensive actions.  Even if I had to wait to buy it until I could afford the new hardware... I was hoping that what it would do would be "astounding".

In a sense...... it is sounding more like a similar upgrade to what happened from fs2002 to fs2004....... which was good... but not earthshaking.

best,

.........john

light year jump would have cost them time and money. MS haven't gotten to where they are by loosing money thats for sure. Too many people would have had to put off buying it if it were 64bit right now, MS saw that and said, lets wait until the technology is more common before we take that next jump. This already looks a whole lot better than FS9 so I am sure most will be hooked on it.

Yeah, they have gone for the mass-market thing again.  Which since they are a buiness is the correct strategy.  It is just disappointing that we'll have to wait yet another almost 3 years to get the 64 bit stuff in FS.

What the visuals seem to look like is fs2004 with a lot of payware installed.  If you add stuff like FScene textures, American Roads and Streams, FSGenesis mesh, and so on........ it looks a lot like many of the screenshots they've posted.

And some of the features they have added seem to have been inspired by stuff like FS Passengers.

Yeah... the flying birds seem interesting....... but even those are already available.  So unless the new brrds "behave" more like the real thing....... that's been done too.

Hopefully there is a LOT more than what they have teased us with so far.  Wink

There is always the chance it could be upgradeable in the future to 64 bit compatibility. There is still so little known about the program that its too early to tell.

An interesting interview indeed. I haven't been checking the FSX forum much, and maybe I missed something int hat artical. Has MS said when the release date is yet? last I heard was "fall 2006", rather vague.
