Had a rental scheduled for today at 1000; beautiful day with a steady NE breeze expected to diminish... very "Silver Wings Nice Day"...
But of course I had to cancel.
Been battling a cold all week, and as of bedtime last night, I was hopeful... still a little upper-sinus congestion, but feeling much better after a day of rest Saturday. But I woke up in the middle of the night hacking like I'd been gassed... still hopeful as I drifted off again because with me, the coughing usually means it's almost over.
But I feel run-down this morning. I'm sure I'd be OK in the air (and was expecting new pilot-friend Gus to tag along; he'd be a good safety pilot), but it'd be unpleasant, and I'd probably feel worse afterwards. Oh, well.
Maybe I'll go back to bed for awhile... hoping for more fine weather next Sunday: should have the cathedral of the sky mostly to myself while everybody else is stuck in church or doing the family Easter thing.

I'm about to go up (1800Z). I'm not sure about Jersey weather, but here (KOSU), it's absolutely perfect. Just a bit chilly and not a cloud in the sky and almost no wind. I expect it to be a little rough on the way up, but at 4000msl or so.. it should be nice. I'm taking a local sports writer up for his first time in a small plane. He likes to go to as many baseball games as he can and thinks flying might be better than driving (or commercial flying, as you make your own schedule).
I'll wag my wings, facing east, Rotty..

Not surprising; there seems to be a big fat bubble of hi-pressure air over the center of the country. even here on the fringes ofit, the weather is superb. Enjoy it, and don't forget the barf bags for the newbie!!

It was one of those days where you learn/remember something..
If there's frost in the AM and not one cloud in the sky.. the low-level turbulence will be significant as the sun starts warming things up. I couldn't find smooth air below 6000msl and climbing to 6000 takes an eternity when you can see that your passenger is twitching and tensing up with every bounce. "I" was even uncomfortable most of the day. If we didn't have a nice, long lunch/dinner in Urbana (I74) allowing for a "sun low in the sky", smooth, last leg (with a perfect landing).. This poor guy might have NEVER gotten up in a small plane again ..

LOL... gotta head out early on days like that, or make it an evening flight after things have calmed down.
