Welcome, SimViators to the next Airshow Announcement!

If you're wondering where it'll be held, now we'll reveal it.....get ready to visit KOSH (ID of airfield) in the USA, for a great airshow!
And I hear you ask....when do we hold the airshow?
The airshow should be held on on either April 15th or April 16th.....the time is yet to be determined.
(EDIT: New airshow date is Saturday 22nd April)

We also need to know what you'll be flying. Please state what you're flying AND post a link for others to be able to see you! Preferably, the files should have small sizes for dial-up users, and it would be better if the models were AI - better on framerates.

Next announcement coming soon!

Just want add one thing...

File sizes
If you want to fly a particular aircraft, and there is a 20mb option, and a 1mb option, please fly the 1mb aircraft!
However, if this causes a problem, in terms of flight dynamics... not to worry!

Say we have Aircraft1 (20mb) and Aircraft2 (1mb). You do not like the flight dynamics of Aircraft2, therefore you want to fly Aircraft1. All you need, is a change of .air files.

1. Copy 'Aircraft1.air' (or whatever it may be) from the main Aircraft1 folder.
2. Paste this into the Aircraft2 folder.
3. Make a note of 'Aircraft2.air' (preferably, back it up), and then delete it.
4. Rename 'Aircraft1.air' to 'Aircraft2.air'. (note: you need to type in the '.air' bit, else it is only recognised as a 'File'.

Simple as that Wink

As with last time, the entire aircraft list will be posted with the programme, with details on where to download them.

I myself will be flying the freeware AlphaSim/Bob Chicilo RF-4C Phantom.

Next weekend?  Easter?  I'm going out one day over the Easter break, but the weather will determine which day so I can't be sure of attending or not.

Want to set up a couple of pylons and have a quick 3-lap race as part of the show?

Oh god, time to choose.

For my most important display, Default DC-3.

And, I also will do an Aerobatic Glider display in the Let Blanik L-13.  http://fsglider.de/blan13f.zip Tiny download, low poly.

BUT I NEED HELP!  I NEED A TOW PILOT!  Foz did it for me last time, id be glad if hed do it again.  Im gonna need a tow to 2000 feet directly over the airfield, then I will proceed to do my display.

To help you guys out, im gonna go on a hunt for a low, low, low poly aircraft for spectators.

The default Schweizer is an ideal plane for spectators, it can't make any noise and they've got it installed already.

How about this?

FS2004 Paper airplane 25 foot long gmax paper airplane with the Schweizr 2-32 files. Will do 400+ knots in a steep dive, but starts to become unstable around 275-280. No animations, no panel, very simple visual model, only 50 polys. Fun to fly especially in tower view. By Bill Wogan. 525K

Say if there is 20 of us in the spectators... even then you'll only have 1000 polys! I'm pretty sure that's less that a single Schweizer!

I was considering displaying the little BD-5J, but a 17ft wingspan at 300KIAS can be difficult to see from the runway.

So, if I can make it, I'll be flying the Storch instead and doing some v-e-r-y  s-l-o-w flying.

http://www.fswarbirds.com/index.php?loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=552

I'm surprised it wasn't available here at SimV...

Saturday after Easter could be a problem as I am at work untill 2pm but so long as it's later than that I'd love to join in. If I can come I'll be flying either the Hawker Sea Fury (same one I flew last time, find it here at SimV in the FS2K2 vitage section) or the FS9 version of Paul Rebuffat's superb Spitfire XII that you can get from Flight sim. com http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kdl/main/73/sptmxii.zip?HVHza04l
I may fly both if you have a couple of slots available. Smiley

That's fine. We can just put you later on in the programme.

The problem is, we have many different people stretching over different time zones. I think the extremes go from Jakemaster - Theis/Ecko (Texas - Denmark). 5pm (GMT) seemed about the ideal time, as in the US, they were just getting up, and we still had enough time in Denmark to see the show through.

Would not be an airshow without a few Spitfires! The Paul R. Spits are old CFS2 models so are very frame rate freindly and they still look fantastic in FS9 Smiley

That's a great idea. It would be nice to get a whole bunch of Spits up as a 70 year celebration. All the major types are available as freeware. Or how about K5054 and a Seafire 47? First and last kind of thing. Smiley

with being in work till 4pm everyday, i can probably be online (ntl connection permitting) at around 5:30ish for a couple of hours, then again at around 9ish for most of the night.

is there an airport close to oshkosh that a formation flypast could be took off from and flown over the airfield?

Is that the same Spit as http://www.myzone59.com/index.php?option=com_remository&func=fileinfo&id=14 ?

I'd much rather give a direct link to the download in the programme this time, as it makes for easier viewing, and organising, without that long, extensive list we had last time.

...'trubble is, as I see it...
....everyone who participates in the Air Show has to download and install all the aircraft that everyone else is installing...otherwise they wont be visible in their correct form... Shocked...!

If I want to include my army Auster in the show, it means that everyone else must have it in their Hangar also for it to be visible...Shocked...!

In the last show all the planes around me always appeared as versions of the FS 2004 Default aircraft....and no-one could see my Cosmos Flexwing...because they didn't have it in their Hangar... Cry...!

Which is exactly why I've urged people to use aircraft with low file sizes!

And I (and most other people) will be downloading the Auster anyway, so no need to worry about that!

Oh, and I'll send you a PM with the list of 'Dial-up friendly' aircraft Grin

Its not really a tow, but I have someone go to like 2500 feet or so and then I use the follow command to put me behind them (CTRL+SHIFT+T brings names up at the top right of the screen, then CTRL+SHIFT+F makes you follow the selected name)

OK, so as not to have too many of the same aircraft flying at once I'll change to the Paul Rebuffat MkXIV http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kdl/main/73/sptmxive.zip?4bpaN04U but I should just point out that the Paul R. Spit IXs and the XVI for 2K4 are all available at Flightsim.com
I'd love to join in with a practice session for a Warbird formation but I'm on afternoons all this week so maybe sometime over the weekend or one night next week maybe?

dont worry dial up users i might just have a cunning plan up my sleeve allowing you to download small aircraft whilst the broadband people are flying 30 odd md things
If anybodys interested in trying it out then pm me with the type of aircraft your using, what download you have and the title and sim names from that planes aircraft config file as well as the times your available at...as far as I know as long as those are the same then fs will automatically register  it as the aircraft you have  Wink

as for planes i might be flying a nimrod or tornado (or some other plane if i like it  Wink)

my reasons for these planes are because i saw several tornados and was flying on nimrods for 3 hours at camp with the atc in kinloss, might post about it whenever i get time(most likely tomorrow.)

...is it me bein' stoopid or sumfin'... Cry...?

...but if everyone decides at the last minute to download different types of aircraft from here, there, and everywhere, most of us aren't going to be able see them...?
...they wont be in our Hangars... Shocked...!

I still reckon that the only way that a multiplayer Airshow will work successfully is if everyone uses the "Uncle Bill" default aircraft in their Hangar....Grin...!

..maybe a bit boring, but at least it works for everyone...instantly.... Wink...!

I know from past experience, from the last Airshow, most of the Planes didn't show up as the Simmers selected models... Cry...!

One of the few models which showed up correctly was Jake's "DH DC-3", because it's one of the default aircraft... Grin...!

I've managed to download a few of the Members selected special aircraft....but as for the rest....too many of them...Shocked...!

Cheers all...!

for planes to show up correctly you have to start off in a default aircraft at first, dont you?

Hello Lads...!

It's now confirmed that the date for the Airshow is Saturday 22nd of April.
All we need now is the "time" of the start of the Airshow... Wink...?

I've thumbed through the various threads but I cant find any mention of it...!

...and what "Time Zone" will it be...Greenwich Mean Time+1, Eastern Standard Time, Pacific Time, The Time in Hong Kong, the Time on my Cuckoo Clock, etc....?

It's not been finalised between me and cspyro, but it will probably be 5pm GMT, as that seemed to work pretty well last time.

If anyone can't make it for 5, or will have to leave early, please mention it so I can stick you earlier/later in the programme Wink

Hi Tweek...!

I don't know how many folks are going to turn up, but from the number of them who have indicated an interest, I doubt very much that I have the Dial-Up time to download all their aircraft into my Hangar so that they ALL show up in their correct types... Wink...!

So...
May I make a suggestion for simplicity, for the next Airshow that we all agree to only use the selection of Uncle Bills various default aircraft... 8)...?

Now that would guarantee an excellent show for photographic purposes where every aeroplane will appear in its correct type, with no arguments, discussion, or confusion.... Wink... Grin..!
That way, anyone can pop in at the last minute with his/her choice of default aircraft with no problems...

With all our default aircraft mingled in amongst the various default Oshkosh objects, static aircraft, tents, hangars, visitors, etc, should make for some fantastic "realistic true-to-life" screen-shots... Grin...!
....just like a real Airshow...!!!

What do you reckon... Wink....?

Cheers all...!

Paul...always brimming over with good ideas...Wink...!

P.S. I often wonder if Flight Simmers realise that only the DEFAULT aircraft show up correctly in Multiplayer flight at all times...It's the way it was designed by Uncle Bill... Wink...!

P.P.S. ....Tweek...What is your location, etc?...(It's not in your Profile)...an FBI secret, maybe... Wink...?

It's possible, but the problem with Uncle Bill and his little team over there, is that they didn't include all that much variety! However, if you want, we can try and work out a way that you'll be able to see every aircraft, as desired! If you PM me with whenever you've got a little time on your hands, we can try and sort it out in a multiplayer session!

As for my location, approximately 70 miles NE of Hereford, up in Leicester!

My 2Mb Broadband costs the same as my old 56K anytime. It was sensible to change

(To be fair, Wanadoo anytime was a rip-off)
