I was thinking of how many criminal investigation shows there are on TV these days. and even on the 5 networks we get, it's amazing how many there are. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with watching them(I watch very few of them), but do we need so many of them?
I can't imagine how many people who have cable or satelite get
I might have missed some, but here's a list of what I found on the networks we get here, and all of these are on 4 networks
CBS
48 Hours Mystery
Cold Case
CSI
CSI: Miami
CSI: New York
Without A Trace
NCIS
Criminal Minds
Close To Home
Numb3rs
ABC
Boston Legal
The Evidence
In Justice
NBC
Law & Order
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
Law & Order: Criminal Intent
Conviction
Crossing Jordan
Heist
FOX
24
Bones
Cops

Pretty much as the reality show market is slowly dying. So will this form of TV in the next few years, and it'll be something new to take its place.

I wouldn't categorize 24 as a CI show. More of action/adventure/suspense.

Tis funny that we get most of those programmes on just the one channel. Channel 5.
Now the only reason I ever watch Channel five is for Dark Angel. And even then it's only to look at Jessica Alba.

Can't beat a bit of Agatha Christie for a bit of criminal investigation...
Poirot would run rings round all these modern "detectives", and Miss Marple, well she'd leave them behind as well...

I love how any job on TV is made out to be exciting, and every day is a different adventure! Like a boy scout excusion!
"Hey bob, watcha got for me today?"
"Another gunshot one."
"Same?"
"Yeah."
[cries for his selected career path]
I'd like to ask a real morgue person or investigator just how exciting and riveting their job is. Thankfully I don't watch TV, but I've actually heard people cite these shows to back up whatever poorly formed argument they have.
"I saw it on CSI!"
"Yeah, well I saw it on Battlefield 2!"

Well, according to some specialists in that fied, CSI is pretty accurate scientifically. They just speed things up and act "cool". I like it anyhow.
On one of our stations, they run reality-ish shows on real crime scene investigations and coroner activities. It's far less flashy. In reality you have about 48 h to collect evidence and follow leads. After that period the trail disappears and cases are much harder to solve.
I wonder what new shows they will come up with next... I sense a revival of paranormal shows ( Taken, Invasion, Lost, ...)

That's the genius behind it... they'll never have story-lines that are milked out...
