Could anyone tell me if there is a patch to allow fs 2002 to run with the ms servicepack 2 installed? All my flights suffer from severe video stutter, and nothing seems to fix the problem. A friend tells me that servicepack 2  installation brought problems for fs 2002, and that a patch was designed to overcome what is an extremely annoying problem. Apologies if the answer has already been provided somewhere, as i have limited "searching" knowledge.

Thanks for the prompt reply, RJ. Someone else has suggested my processor is too slow, although it used to run ok with FS 2k2.  I am going to try shutting down background programs to see if they are the cause. Regards, MAB

One thing I did when I was running FS2002 on a AMD 1Ghz machine, was to have a seperate Harddrive just for the game.  It worked so well, I'm doing it again with my new AMD 3500+.

I bought a removal rack and a 2nd HDD.  When I want to fly FS2002, I install my FS2002 HDD which contains only XP and FS2002.  No antivirus software, nothing.....  It really helped.  However you have to spend a few bucks for the second HDD and rack...

Like you said, their are many tweaks you can.  Just google XP tweaks and you'll spend hours tweaking...

Cheers

That's interesting, as by sheer coincidence, MS Australia ran an article in their local XP monthly re how an old hdd could be recycled in much the same way you've mentioned. I might give that atry after I figure out how to shut down background programs. (any ideas?) MAB

Yep.  Get FSAutoStart.  Follow the author's recommendations on which services to kill or research the options further at someplace like this BlackViper mirror.

I think I've answered my own question. I ran AVAST, a free virus scanner, and it found a hidden trojan that all the others missed. I deleted the trojan, and FS 2002 is running like a dream. Give it a try if a stuttering screen is making your flying miserable. Regards, MAB (Australia)
