8) Since several folks have emailed lately about the status of the new Fox Four 'Red Star' Korean campaign, I can tell you that it's finished and going through testing as I type this note. We're hoping to have it in general release for downloading from the Fox Four website within a couple of weeks...barring any unforseen glitches.

Here are a few additional preliminary screen shots.
(Some of these show early marks of the MiG-15 model with imperfections that have been eliminated since.)

I thought that the team would never be able to produce an aircraft that could equal the Sea Fury used in the Ocean Fury campaign, but it has come together. Hayden's superb model, textures and VC, combined with Mike's inimitable panel and cunningly accurate AIR file, and my humble DP overseen and tweaked by Doug have given us a truly classic MiG-15bis. There are new Manchurian bases, a real variety of allied aerial opponents and 19 missions that will challenge the player, and offer potenially different outcomes with each flight. Collin's new, beautiful, and frame-rate friendly CVE118 is also featured. (Though when attacked, the intensity of her flak is so realistic that it will make one think twice about wandering within range.) Russian mission screens, ranks, decorations and Scuttlebutt act as sweeteners. There will also be a beautiful set of optional Korean splash screens. This complex package is being wrapped in Doug's slick self-extractors to make installation a breeze. We have high hopes that it will be worthy of the effort expended.

Though I've been around for years, I'm really not a very active poster, but I have to add this(yes, I know I'm 'gushing'
). This MiG's panels are so realistic and functional that not learning to use their capabilities is almost sinful, though the aircraft itself makes you want to just strap it on and go flying. It's well worth the effort to learn the cockpit from the panel instructions, including translated screenshot to get you around the Russian instrument labels. Unique airbrake indicator, upper as well as lower panel views, Autopilot and ADF make this a cockpit flyer's dream. And the AIR file is so accurate that it even includes the MiG's unusual trait of rolling to the opposite side when heavy rudder is applied.

We're hoping to go to beta in a week or so. Because of some unique circumstances, alpha testing is taking a touch longer than planned. (Translation: The rest of the team is pointing-out stuff that yours truly just plain overlooked, or flubbed due to inattention to detail during a recently demanding work schedule.)

I will re-install CFS2 to fly this - I've always thought very highly of the Fox Four campaigns! Highly detailed, high qulity, well thought out - a joy! Thanks for the hard work, chaps!
Now, if only I can work out a way of getting TrackIR to work with CFS...
It will be funny using the high hat again...

Told you not to get between the element leader and his wingie.....those AIs can be tenacious once they lock on.

My deflection shooting is still superb! I can take a B-29 out at 1300 yds
But dogfighting 6 F-84s in my Mig when my idiot wingmen crash into each other is proving a little tricky...
I've got a Red Banner already
I've also got lots of lead buried in my poor little Mig
How the **** do you fight when your engine lag can be measured on the calendar?

CFS2 cannot operate the airbrake on the AI, and if your wingmen are sent into an attack in a direct dive from above they can easily 'Fox Four' the target aircraft or each other. I usually avoid this by either attacking from a level altitude, or passing above the target and then sending the wingies into attack. That causes them to slow in a turning attack to get on the enemies tail...as you know the AI always attacks from astern. I had to hobble the B-29's 20mm tailgun to keep them from wiping out my flight.
Welcome to the world of pre-afterburner jet engines, but you'll soon get the hang of it. Jets take some serious adjustment. You might also find that straightline slashing attacks on the target are more effective than getting into a turning match. LOL.

You might find that the MiG's best combat speed is between 275 and 300 knots. And though acceleration may seem slow now, no opponent can out-accelerate or outrun you.....I promise. 8)

Hi,
Would it be any good me developing my F86, Meteor, P-80, F9F and Mig-15's as AI planes for your Red Star campaign? Might help with the frame rates.
Thanks

We Russians make good reliable parachutes, and we dearly love our medals....big, heavy medals.
Isn't it interesting that in the campaign you get loads of medals for shooting down lots of enemy aircraft, and you get promotions for being a good flight leader, getting kills for your wingies and bringing them all home? 8)

Framerates are always a big concern of mine(and everyone else's)...this is particularly true in a couple of Red Star missions where you can get a bunch of aircraft in a frame at once, or you get to close to the surface action in the carrier attack mission. ARE YOU HAVING FRAMERATE ISSUES?
The P-80 and F-84 AIs are pretty barebones already(though yours may be better), but the others are player grade, or at least older player grade aircraft. So, yes, we'd appreciate any contributions to help framerate issues and variety of aircraft available for missions.....variety being the spice of campaigns.

As a result of the beta-tests so far, we have done a MDL file update on the MiG and the B-26B AI to prevent them from throwing 'ghost' images when hit in certain ways, updated the Country.CFG for a typo that prevented the Blood wound award from displaying and modified a couple of missions for typos in the Briefing.

Having speed at your fingertips presents a whole different set of challenges, doesn't it?
Many years ago, I had coffee with a US Navy Lt. Commander who shotdown a MiG-17 in Vietnam while flying an AD prop job...'by pure reflex'. He and his wingman were maneuvering at low altitude to avoid two MiGs, when one undershot him very badly on a highspeed firing pass. The SPAD pilot saw the MiG coming and had pulled-up(not hit brakes or flaps) at the last minute to throw the MiG's aim off, and the MiG 'just popped up right in my gunsight'. Of course, the MiG got a burst of the SPAD's 20mm right up the tailpipe 'by pure reflex'. About that time two more ADs jumped into the furball, and both MiG's decided to head for home....one smoking very heavily. A couple of F4s coming to the rescue confirmed the smoker augered in some miles away.
Speed ain't all it's cracked-up to be.
