I was thinking about a documentary I watched along time ago, and I think you guys should hear about it. It was about the disappearance of Amelia Earhart and her navigator somewhere of the Pacific. The documentary's main point was that this was near the start of WWII, and that it is possible that their plane crashed or ran out of fuel, and that they were picked up by the Japanese on occupied islands. I don't remember the navigator's name, but apparently he had a plane design that was very effective and fast (may have won an air race). This plane showed a very similar likeness to the Japanese Zero fighter, almost too much. The rumour is that he gave the design to the Japanese. i can't remember what else the show said, they may have been living in hiding or something. Please don't think anything here is true, it is just a theory i remember seeing on a tv show a year ago

Everyone loves a mystery & the conspiracy theories about this started a few days after she disappeared. I think it's more than likely that they simply got lost, ran out of fuel & ditched in the sea. The Pacific Ocean is a very large expanse of water & Howland Island is a tiny speck on the map.

This is very similar in some respects to Earhart's British counterpart Amy Johnson. Although she was flying solo over land she was way off course & ended up over the Thames Estuary which is a much smaller area of water than the Pacific Ocean. She was seen parachuting into the water but was unfortunately dragged under the rescue ship's stern. Neither Amy Johnson nor her aircraft were ever seen again.
There are all sorts of exotic theories about her disappearance but it's most likely that she simply got lost in bad conditions & ran out of fuel. Maybe her pride in her reputation wouldn't let her admit defeat & turn back where a less famous person wouldn't have even considered flying in those conditions. Excellent report on this here.

PS. Another example is the disappearance of Major Glenn Miller. These stories will continue as it's unlikely the truth will ever be discovered.

Many years ago, I saw a documentary surmizing she landed on a Japanese held island and was captured by the Japanese. Since then, the prevailing thought is that she ran out of fuel and ditched at sea. I tend to believe the ditched at sea theory.
