Hi there !

I´m glad to announce that our Flightsim MP Server
is running stable now for two weeks.
The little problems from the beginning are gone
and we intend to keep this server running
as a permanent service.
I encourage everyone to use this server now
for their Events, Tours, Airshows, Races.. whatever.
We allready had several great MP Sessions the last two weeks.

We are trying to keep it as open as possible.
Therefor we will grant restricted admin access
through the web interface
to users who want to organize events.
This will give you access to weather/time
(enforcing a weather theme/time for a specific event),
Add/update/delete Flight Plans for players,
change Hoplists (for tours) and start hoplist races.
So if you want to organize some sort of event...
make a forum post.. see if there are enough people
willing to join.. and contact me via PM to request access.
I´ll than give you further instructions.
Of course this feature/access is optional... you don´t need
it inevitable to fly your events "

We have setup a first "standard" hoplist through Alaska
and Yukon consisting of 25 Hops between 80 and 200 NM
(Hoplists can be changed durring events/tours)
In the future we will probabely make polls.. for new hoplists.
I will make a detailed post with charts and infos regarding the Alaska/Yukon Hoplist tonight.

If there is no specific Event going on... this server is made
for free flying. So feel free to do whatever you like..
as long as you don´t disturb any other users.

We are still searching for an ATC Solution. I have not yet
found a radar client that is compatible with a standard
Flightsim Server. If anyone knows a good client..
please contact me !!

Regarding the Teamspeak Server. We recognized
that there are some users with modem connections
using our TS Server wich caused voice problems in several
cases. So we switched all channels on "Flightdeck" to a
low bandwith codec that should work well for modem users.
The voice quality should still be acceptable. We
also created a channel "Simviation Pub (High Quality)"
wich uses a high bandwith codec for better voice quality
if neccessary.

We will make a CPU/Memmory upgrade in the near future.
But I will announce this when the time has come.

below you´ll find all the data neccessary to connect.

----------

The Flightsim Server IP:

85.10.244.109:23456
(default port)

----------

These ports MUST be open.

23456 UDP
6073 UDP
23432 TCP/UDP

edit !!!!

For FS2002 also these ports needs to be opened.

2302-2400 UDP

Could please someone with FS2002 test the Server
and give me a feedback ! We´re not yet 100% shure if
it works. Thank You !

You can use Eno´s excellent tutorial
if you don´t know how to do this.
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Multi;action=display;num=1...

----------

Use this page to see who´s online
http://cockpit.netfrag.org/

and this website to for general informations.
(We´re currently still working on some basic tutorials
how to setup flighplans.. etc.)
http://games.netfrag.org/

----------

optional you can use our Teamspeak Server for voice chat

ts.netfrag.org

please read this post if you are new to teamspeak.

It looks like the following ports need to be forwarded for
FS2002, too.

2302-2400 UDP

We had these ports not yet open on our server but
changed this during our conversation on Teamspeak.
Slowly I ran out of ideas why it still won´t work for you.
I think it would be helpfull if someone else with FS2002
installed could try to connect. So we could see if the
problem is on our.. or on your side.

well...just another vague idea. Try to connect when you
have some time left. After hitting the "connect" button
just wait for quite a while.. like 10 Minutes.
Quit unlikely that it works.. but sometimes flightsim
takes a bit longer to find a session.

You´ll also need at least DirectX 8 installed !!
(Windows Start Menue / Run and type in dxdiag.. this will bring up a dialog that shows the DirectX Version)

Hope this helps !

This must have been the server that we flew around the carriers on last Saturday. I didn't realize that it was now a dedicated server 8)

We're definently going to have to do a lot more MP flights Cheesy

We ordered a memory upgrade for our server that will be
installed by our provider today or tommorrow.
This means the server will have a (hopefully) short downtime.

I voted no not because i hate his server, becuase i think he's got a fine setup.

but there are other servers out there which also would like to be part of the spotlight. not just mine, but the NFo server, and there's a couple other servers out  here people host.

just trying to say the simple word, variety.

SmileyRamos

PS: sam's server is not bad (i've flown on it, good fps!)
but mine is better Tongue

Then make them all stickies Wink Better to raise awareness of one or two, than none at all!

The only two I know of are yours, Ramos, and Sam's nFo server. Perhaps these can be our main two servers... with stickied posts Grin

The purpose of this server is to have a PERMANENT (static IP)
server online on a fast (150M/Bit), reliable connection to offer
an acceptable ping for people in all parts of the world.
If you have red this topic.. you will know that I even grant
restricted admin access to everyone who wants to organize
events !!

Everyone could open an FSHost on his local machine.. but this means:
People can only fly when you are online.
You´ll always need to communicate the IP to
people who want to fly. The ping times are much higher
for people living further away (other continents).

regards,

sam

ps. If you have a server running on your local machine...
it will of course grant YOU the best possible ping (fps is something completely different).
Keep in mind that you are the only player who can enjoy
this advantage !
pps. no our server is not standing at my home.

Ah I thought not to add anything , but there is just another thing you will have to notice when running a server. Hardware that is being used 24/7 also tends to break. So if you have the money and time to maintain a 99% running system with a reliable uptime, go ahead and do it.

I'd rather let people do that for me that have this as their fulltime job...

i dont use this computer often, im usually on my laptop.

the only reason im a bit restrictive on my rights is becuase there are people out there who will take advantage and start booting people left and right. i cant seem to find a way to keep my admin rights, and give others SA.

cause i give my ATC controllers access to my FSHost server as well.

i have a cable modem, we run 3 servers (mine and 2 work servers) 24/7 so our downtime is minimal.

FPS is directly related to Ping time. people's computers have to send cooridnates to the server and out to the other flyers, this will slow down due to a slow connection (56k for example).

now i give my home network and WAN the best possible uptime, cause i am a certified Network admin (CCNA)

AND, just because the server is not at your house, oes not mean it won't be far from someone. it just means you have to go to a different building to make hardware changes.

Ok.. if it´s all about politics.. than may the force be with you.

and.. be shure fps and ping are completely different things.
Do not confuse this with the server update rate... but hey

yep.. right !!
Go ahead Ramos.. make a reliable 24/7 Server and we can shut down ours... It uses most of our ressources anyway,

Sam...
Please don't abandon us, for goodness sake... Cry...!
The Server works admirably with no restrictions... Grin...!

Just a thought tho'....
Is it possible to add two more port addresses in addition to the existing Port 23456....?

23457.
23458.

This would make it similar to the WS Pilots Server, and allow separate, independent  groups to fly without clashing with each other...?

Just a thought...Wink...!
