What you need is to use a exclude that will get rid of the trees for you.
What you have to do is to describe a area to  exclude you have to start in one pactiular corner I want to say the soutwest corner but I can not rember It has been a long time since I used a exclude
If you check in the Scenery design part of the forums you should find pleanty of posts on how to use exclude.
Or I think if you google the exclude you can find some answers as well. But the exclude is the bulldozer of FS with it you can make sure you have a nice surface clear of all obstructions.
Lots of luck  8)

You need to create an 'exclude'. A simple utility for doing this is ExcBuilder V2. http://www.scenery.org/design_utilities_b.htm.
Just follow the simple instructions in the included 'Readme...' file.

Requires FSConnect to capture coordinates from the sim. http://www.dirks-software.ca/ and bglcomp.exe and bglcomp.xsd from the Bglcomp.sdk from MS http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/fs2004_downloads_sdk.asp#bgl to compile the resulting .bgl file.

As your project progresses, (as it will  Wink ,adding buildings and such) you may want to make further queries in the Scenery and Panel Design forum.

Or write your own exclude=North, West, South, East in the FS9 scenery.cfg file. Only one exclude= is permitted for each scenery. Have fun.

Sample:
[Area.205]
Title=Noname
Local=Addon Scenery\Noname
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=206
Exclude=N62 5.29,W152 33.36,N62 4.79,W152 34.34,all
