From my Grandpa, I've heard Concordes weren't very comfortable, and very crammed inside.  He said the service was excellent, but it was very hot in the cabin.  I think it would be fun to be a pilot though, flyin that fast Grin

It is such a shame, one crash and that ended its career brining the rich and famous across the Atlantic. That's the root of it really. If it wasn't for that crash she'd still be buzzing the skies I think. Sad
That said, after the crash and the 9/11 tragedy I read that many users of COncorde were gone. With the decline in air travel and the rise in low fare airlines poor Concorde just couldn't make it. I so wish they kept one, just one, only one for flyings sake going. *sigh*

Concorde's days were numbered even before that crash.  Environmental ordinances regarding overland flight and sound  levels doomed Concorde long before the crash.  Concorde was not a money maker.

Think about it, Boeing's have crashed, Airbus have had crash, DC-10's and MD-80's have crashed, but those planes weren't permanently grounded.  So that logic dictates there was more to the grounding of Concorde than the crash.

Actually the Concorde was retired due to its age more than anything else.

You have to remember the aircraft is over 30 years old and would need extensive upgrades and modifications to its systems to keep flying. BA and Air France decided it was cheaper to retire them and write off  to their investment of around £100M ( $175M US) than upgrade the aircraft and then have to write off an investment that could haved topped  £200M ($350M US) or more if the premium travel market didnt improve.

As far as crashing is concerned the Concorde was one of a kind. Nobody else made an aircraft that could replace it. If a Boeing or Airbus crashes, or is retired due to age, you can always find a newer model or version to replace it with. Concorde didnt have that option

And Concorde was a money maker. The aircraft made a tidy profit for both BA and Air France. It was the drop off in Premium air travel that killed it more than anything else.

Imagine that...a Yankee supporting the Concorde.  8)
