well its for the origilal extra 300 (2004).  How can I get rid of the checkers on the nose.  they dont appear on the .bmp file that im editing in PSP.  anyway I can increase the resolution on the fuselage?  It seems (and it may be just me) that the resolution on the fuselage is lower than the wings.  not as sharp anyways.  anybody know where I can get a blank template of the wings, fuselage, etc?  outline or something of what is what.  Any help is greatly apreciated.  Have a great day

May I suggest d/l DXTbmp(x) from Martin Wright's page(s)  and checking the various fileformats; the edited saved Xtra files may have differnt formats; e.g., DXT3 and 32Bit Extended. also check the Alpha channels (top righthand side) to ensure they are (at least) of equal density. The amount of shine can affect the appearance in FS9 (depending upon one's Settings)

I do have BXTbmp program.  Just open the bmp files with that, over to PSP and back when done.

Why are there 3 different bmp files (extra300s_c.bmp, extra300s_d.bmp and extra300s_t.bmp) for the texture?  One of which shows the aircraft damaged.  Never seen that in the game.

And im still clueless about the checkers on the nose.  How to make them disapear

They might be colored polies bout i doubt it. Though it would be interesting to know if anyone has made a plane for FS with colored polies and no texture maps, would be interesting to see

Haven't we had this conversation already? It wasn't that long ago someone wanted to darken or remove the X300's canopy and couldn't.

You are correct . . . the checkered parts cannot be repainted. I just tried it. It is a reminder though why I don't waste time trying to repaint FS9 default aircraft.

Aw you people give up too easy!  Of course they can be repainted.  Otherwise I couldn't have made these, could I?
...

How did I do it?  Here's the repaint I used in the SimV races:
...
Just next to the slightly modified pilot torso there are two black patches, one by her shoulder and one by her elbow.  The one beside her elbow is where the checker pattern on the nose gets its colour from.  Make them a different colour if you want, or paint them the same colour as the fuselage to make them disappear.

The black patch by her shoulder does two things, the left half is the tailwheel strut and the right half is those triangular doodahs under the wings.  And that big black area halfway down the right side of the bitmap is the undercarriage.  You can't normally see these on the default Extra because they're the same colour as the background.

The fuselage is the same resolution as the wings, but it's horribly distorted.  Check this out:

Those letters are straight on the bitmap!

You might want to look at my repainting tutorial, I used the Extra for my demonstration.  Click the link in my sig to go there.  I can send you a map of the parts if you want, just drop me an email.

And welcome to SimV!

extra300s_c.bmp is the view from the Virtual Cockpit.  If you repaint the plane you'll still see the default Extra from the VC, unless you repaint that as well.

extra300s_t.bmp is the external view, that's where you want to put most of your effort.

extra300s_d.bmp is the damaged version, I've never seen it in FS9 but then I never crash  Grin Grin Grin

Here's the layout of the parts.  I've painted the two areas for the checkers red.  The upper one goes around the nose, the lower one is on the fin.  Repaint those areas if you want to change the checkers.
