SmileyI have made a fictional repaint of the Bowers FlyBabe biplane of Ron Wanttaja, in the colors of 74 (Tiger) Squadron, RAF. I made it for fun and for my own use, but if you guys think it worth uploading, I could do it provided I get permission the original's maker.

In fact, and since I am a fanatic RAF markings enthusiast, I have also made a 2nd fictional repaint of the same aircraft, in the colours of 64 (Scarab Sqn) RAF, and am planning to do couple of aircraft in the colors of the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm.

Of course these are fiction. But at times I think that fiction is a good thing. After all, the sim itself is pure fiction, if one wants to be honest. And the imagination and fiction are bound together in our world, are they not?

The other day, I took out some old 1961-62 issues of the American magazine AIR PROGRESS and found wonderful detailed drawings of the original Fly Babe, showing wing, rib, all tail and fuselage structures, cockpit instrument layout, and other internal details, with an article to go with it. I may post them is anyone is interested.
I was 15 when I bought them from the Athens kiosks every two months. The magazines have a fragile kind of paper which smells strongly--a kind of smell which today's gloss-paper magazines do not have, and my wife, as I was leafing through some issues near her, smelled the weird odor from her sofa 6 feet away and asked me what it was. "Old and precious aeroplanes", I said. The smell stayed on my fingers for hours and  next day I installed the zip and flew the sim aircraft to my heart's content and started doing repaints of it.
In retrospect, I had forgotten I had downloaded the zip file, but in the 45 years which have passed since I bought that FlyBabe "Air Progress" issue, I have not forgotten the cover and the plans and the article. And that memory made me click and install it.
