new CFS3 interest ? (Read 1214 times)

Hope  there  are  some new interests  in this simulator out there , somewhere.
I  have  started  some new  help files,  to get  some information out to those  who simply  dont know ,  and  make it a point in most of the games I host there ,  to "SOAPBOX"  how important ...  it  truely is  to , drop into  this "fine forum"  and get helpful hints  on improving the gameplay.
I recieve a few emails  from time to time, asking  if I see  the strange things  they do....   and  often  yes, I do  or did.

When  I first  installed   my  New OFF add-on,  It gave me fits,   it wouldnt  remember  the  setups I  use for CFS3,  and  my  line  settings ,  sound  config's  ...ect  ect....
So  with  a good  aggrvational motivator,  I went thru it step by step.   and  made  notes  as I went ...
I  have  now  got  my games,  to   nearly  stutter  free flight,  and  excellent  graphics  for the system I am limited to.
The  BIGGEST files , in  games  are  usually  "SOUND".
wnat  to know  where  that  stuttering  comes from  when  you  are  chasing  that  bandit ,  that  seems to majically  fly underground ,   and  jumps  all over  tha place  instaead  of  blowing up from the massive load  of virtual lead  you  threw  at  it ?
"SOUND".   short  and  simple....   they  havent  set  their  sound up right,  and   either  dont have  a decent  chip or card  to handle  that end  of the sim,  or  dont care  what  it's like on your end...   all they want  is  to play.
none   of the  sliders  in  my  sound  config window in CFS3,  are  above  30. NONE.   and  I have  a good sound card...  Creative Audigy.
But  I found  they get away  with  alot  less  stuttering  infront  of MY guns,  with  MY sound  reduced.
And I dont  really  lose  that  much  figuring I can  "Crank up my PC's  volume"  to recover  from that.
I have a new HTML page , I intend  to upload  here.\
I have an old  CFS3 basic's  setup in the Misc page2...
under my old  Zone name.  And intend  to  revamp it to what I run  now,  and  include  some of these   tunings,
in the explanations in it.

Feel free  to contact  me  ,  if I can help , I  will,  if I cant,  I  probably know who could.

...

Hmmm ... so far I haven't really played around with the "sound" settings in my search for better frame rates ... so I'll be interested to read a bit more of exactly what settings you've changed.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts so far ...

Well,

let me  start  with    the  aircraft mismatch  from  those  different  games...  I  dont know  if  the  CFS3 swap utility  is  still  available,   havent  seen  it,  but  really  havent  looked  hard  either,   but  it  resolves  that  mismatch  issue  fast  and easy.
I  have  every AVHistory  a/c  in  my  swap folder,  and  find  them   fun to  use,   but   for  stock  games,  and  alot of  the  missions  I  fly,  had  them , listed as  user a/c's ,  so I  edited  those missions  to use  stock ,  to give more  to my fun ,  as well as  other  who flew  with me.
---------------

as  to the  sound,  it  doesnt  really  improve  FPS,  it  "smooth's" out   some  stuttering.  I  still see  alot  there  that  dont have  a clue, ...  and  it's  almost  comical  as  much  as  annoying,  that  those  that  do that ,  are  also  "usually"  the  rudest ,  when  you  mention  it.
They are  the ones   that  are  so impatient,  when  I  do  my  "soapbox" in the  pre-launch,  about  getting  HERE ,  to  get the  facts  and  help  for  the issues  they  share  with those of us,  who have  smooth running  games,  and systems.

I uploaded , an HTML zip file  on one part  of these  things, I mention here,  and  will complete  the  others  soon  for  the  same  reason, lets have  fun with it all.
I  also  fly  IL2 merged,  and  find  theres  alot  of  Big heads, there ,  that  think  CFS3  is  the pits,   I totally  disagree ,  with that.
I find  they  both  have  pluses,  and   hope  to get  more  help  out to those  that want  CFS3  to fly  right,  to have it that way.

In  your  ingame  sound  settings,   roll ,  all the  sliders  back  to  30 or  less.  Effects  are  the  biggest  hit...  mines  @  20.   then  if  it isnt  loud  enough,   turn up the pc's  volume,  to  get the  sound  again.
the end result  will  be  less stutter  from  them  who  dont  care  to  find  this out,  and  smoother  play  for those  that  do employ  it.
another  point  is  your  connection  settings  in Multiplayer options.....  be certain  your location  as well as  type  is  set  right...  this  enhances  the games performance also. (  you can cheat  it a bit,  if  your  system  runs  good ,  by  upping  the  type, but  that  doesnt  always  help )

Have you got CFS3 upto date with the 3.1 patch & the Aircraft update?

Also, are you using a "No-CD Crack" ?

I've just tried CFS3 briefly on-line, after configuring my firewall & submitting an e-mail addy, it worked sweet, and I got slaughtered!  Embarrassed

I do NOT use the "No-CD Crack"

I need practice.....  Roll Eyes

My CFS3 did a similar garbled bunch like those ,  and  I dont have  the lastest  or greatest,

I know how much you love the add ons  you have,  but  guess what ...      mind  you ,  if you have  the hard drive space,  or a dvd burner,  "copy the installed  game folder" in the  C:prog/MSgames/"CFS3" to  another location.
then  go to add and remove,  and uninstall  it.
then  go remove any and all remnants,   and  I mean  all remnants,   to  and  including  the    CFS3 related , in C:Windows/Prefetch ,   and  do a  registry search  ,  and  eliminate  those entries as well.
Reboot,   and  re-install the  stock  game,   use  the 3.1 updater,  and  then  the  no-cd ,    reconfig,  to  basic's.
fly it once  or  twice,  then  "copy" the  saved  game files ,  back into it.
I went  thru  the  corrupted  graphice  before,   a  few  times  more  than I want to admit,   but   run a  stock  game,  fresh  clean install.....***before copying  the  saved  files  back,  to ensure  its  clear.***
I  do my game  this way ,  and  the  dvd I have  the folder  archived  on  has  everything , I had  installed,  inplace...   scenery / a/c's / ships / missions....  the  works,   and   a  simple  FRESH  N TEST ,  saves my  arse .
went  thru  that same thing  when I did  my  OFF install,  it  gave me a time  of it,   ..  what  I  just explained ,  worked, straight  up.

Well, it was doing that graphics corruption stuff on a clean install before I added the add-ons.

Why not just revert to using the CD then? i.e. replace the cracked .exe with the correct one from the CD , or, do a re-install of CFS3 ???

The corruption occurred with a re-install of CFS3. I configured the set-up to get 1024x768 and 2x aa. I unticked dual pass render and ticked high resolution Z buffer as recommended. I don't know what else you mean by "setup properly", but would like to know.
I then added the patches and re-configured after that

It's always done this graphic break-up. One night I messed around with all the config settings and the settings on the Nvidia 6800 GT, and sooner or later, in whatever setup I was flying, the graphics would suddenly go corrupted.

Last night, I bombed the sub-pens at Nazaire. Everything was fine until I turned left off target and suddenly the sky turned into two large white squares with a line between. I jumped to an outside view, finished the turn, and when I got back in the cockpit the corruption had gone.

I did one more mission afterwards, where just after the bomb run, the little blue line on the circular TAC screen that shows your route, suddenly extended itself to the top left hand corner of the screen and jiggled about. I switched of the TAC, and kept checking it, but the fault wouldn't go until I was back over the channel.

The effects are just random, but excessively annoying.

wow,  thats  all  new  to me...
ok  what  type  of  monitor ,  and  what  refresh rates  are  you using ?
I havent  had  the chance  to  personally  view  a  6600 card  in  operation,  wish  i had  the system  to run one, my old pc is  about  all I have  for reference,  so  lets see if  i can find someone  with a similar  rig ,  to see  if  they have  had issues.
greasy  whiskers...  that  would  have  me aggravated  as  well...  sounds  like  you  have  been  thru all  the  basic's  plus...
but  you  are  using  2xaa ?  why ?  I  dont... I  leave  mine  set  at  application controlled.

Monitor is a Prolite E380S, running at 60hz, 1024x768, highest colour setting (32 is it?)
The card is 6800 GT PCI, by the way, not 6600
I set AA at 2 in CFS3 Config, whereas in the Nvidia settings it's set at "application controlled".

Tonight, over France in a snow storm, I took the flight down into the clouds to avoid the Luftwaffe. Suddenly I got black flashing graphic patches. I snapped to different views to avoid it, and just as I dropped out of the clouds into the snowstorm, the flashing stopped. I also briefly had the extended blue line from the TAC screen. I switched off the TAC for30 seconds, and when I switched it back on, everything was fine.

I got the sub-pens, by the way Wink
