As stated in the title of this thread, if your going to fly on ws pilots can you please OPEN YOUR PORTS there are at least 2 people that I know off at the minute that don't appear to have their ports open (i'll pm them about it), it's not that difficult to open them.(there has even been complainents on the ws pilots forums about some people from sim v not having their ports open.)

1.go to http://www.portforward.com/
2.follow the instructions there for opening the ports on your router.
3. Allow ws pilots ports for your router and add them to the exceptions list for windows firewall (I don't have to put the ports in my exceptions but I know that for some reason most others do.
4. Join ws pilots and if its a scheduled get together e.g. italy tour, war games, sim v airshow etc If nobody joins shortly after you then you probably don't have your ports open.

How can you tell if your ports are open?

Fly with somebody else but try to get them to join the server after you, if they can join then your ports are most likely set up properly.

What ports are needed to fly on ws pilots servers?

UDP 23456 [FS9]
UDP 23457 [FS9] WSP Custom
UDP 23458 [FS9] WSP Custom
UDP 6073 [FS9]
UDP 23432 [FSNavigator]

(Apparently you also need the FSNavigator port open on your firewall even If you don't use fsnavigator )

How can I tell if somebody doesn't have their ports open and what can I do about it?

It seems to be that the person that doesn't have their ports open is usuallly the last person to join the server ( altough im not certain about this) if you think somebody doesn't have their ports open then don't name and shame them but send them a pm, asking them to open their ports.

Note: this isn't meant to be a tutorial (look at the stickys for them) but more of a request for pilots to open their ports so everybody can have fun.

Well said Soup.

Not saying i'm innocent - I was even mentioned in the WSPilots complaint Grin - but have since remedied my ports (router & firewall).

I also don't want people to take this thread as a personal attack - when I had my 'port problem' I wasn't even aware of it.

I guess this is just a request for peeps to take 2 mins to double check their port settings.

Thanks guys,

TSC.

There IS a sticky not specific for WSP but general for all routers and all sites.

It's a funny old do, but the above chart doesn't appear anywhere in my Windows XP Pro operating system... Shocked...!

I suspect it may be something which is included in Service Pack 2...?
Or maybe something which is included in "Router" software...?

My only reference to a Firewall is located here....
Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Properties > Advanced > Internet Connection Firewall > (tick/untick box)....
and it makes no difference whether I leave it open or closed when on Multiplayer, (or anything else!)... Wink...!

I rather think that most of the connection problems are caused due to Service Pack 2 and Routers... Wink...!

Cheers all... Grin...!

Yep, it's in the router settings.

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

There's a list of router models on there. Choose your model of router, then Flight Simulator 2004, and it will give you instructions on how to open the ports. Remember to open ports 23457 UDP and 23458 UDP as well!

No problem here....
I start the flights, and everyone joins after me and we complete the flights with no problems...as you've experienced... Wink... Grin...!

Remember, I don't have any of the Service Pack 2 security systems included in my version of Windows XP Pro...!!!

My operating system or hardware doesn't include any restrictions on internet connections....

My version of Windows is wide open to anyone who tries to gain entry via my back door....or my front door for that matter...effective Firewalls don't exist....LOl...!

...just get rid of your troublesome routers, that seems to be where most of your problems arise... Shocked...!

I was worried because I couldn't find my port settings, but since I don't have the Windows XP service pack 2, or a router, I'm in the same boat as Fozzer 8)

....But, would the Zonealarm firewall interfere, or would I need to disable it?

You should be able to allow FS9 through as an exception.

Hi Sam...!

I may be wrong, but I think that only applies to pilots who use FS Navigator as a "RADAR" display to observe the locations of other pilots in the group.
In that case, I gather, they use another special, extra port address to connect to the Server.
I think this appears as a "star" attached to the fliers name, often with the word "FS Nav" included..?

Some of us, myself included, merely call up FS Navigator within the Sim to obtain the simple moving map GPS system, (and sometimes containing our flight plan route).

In this case I don't think a Port problem exists...?

Cheers...!

Paul...You never get lost with FS Navigator... Grin...!

Well I´m not shure how FSNav is handled through the network. Flightsim itself uses peer to peer
connections. Probabely FSNav works the same way.
Usually I would think.. if noone else is connected with
FSNav my conncetion would go directly to the server.
But sometimes I´m getting this "not all player were able..."
message even if no other FSNav user is online.
(The normal flightsim connection works well)
So I assume
it might get routet through other users connections no
mater if the one actually uses it or not.
But this is just speculation Smiley wspilots actually does not say this port is optional. So I think it´s better for everyone
using this server to open this port.

By the way... Why don´t you use FSNav in the Multiplayer Session.. Paul ?? It´s quite comfortable to see other
players on your radar. I know there is a warning for low bandwith users. But it usually isn´t a problem. Just give it a try. You can also easily exchange flightplans in a session.

cheers.

Hi Sam...!

At the moment, like Andrew, I get no problems at all with my set-up for multiplayer, because neither of us uses a router, and we don't have Service Pack 2 installed, so no problems with Firewalls and Ports...Grin.. Grin... Grin...!
My FS Navigator works fine for just my use, and the thought of using it as on-line RADAR which you suggest, involving complicated Port problems is something I can well do without......
...Thank-you very much...LOL... Wink... Grin...!

Cheers...

Paul...The Lone FS Nav User... 8)...!
LOL...!

P.S.
(1) Why do people use "Routers"
(2) If Routers give so many problems when playing on-line "games" why is it not possible to remove the Router connection and just plug the internal/external Modem directly into the 'phone line, (which is the set-up I use),...no Port problems then?....Wink...!

If you don´t use a router, firewall or service pack 2. You don´t need to adjust anything to make it work . Just go to "options/Multiplayer Connect" (FSNavigator) Type in the
same server adress like you used to connect with flightsim
and (in case of wspilots) all 3 server should pop up.
Choose the right one and then just hit the connect button. That´s it.
Give it a try !
It really enhances a multiplayer session  !! Smiley

and.. I use a router because I´m not the only one
who wants to enjoy the advantages of internet
at the place I live Wink

Hi Martyn...!

Just a thought...
If it's just you and the Missus who use the computer at home, and assuming that she doesn't play on-line games....why do you need/use a Router....?

Just curious...!

The reason I use a Router is because I have 2 computers, all of which run Flight Sim applications... (soon it will be 3 computers, LOL). My main machine runs Flight Sim and ONLY Flight Sim. The other computer runs Active Sky, SquakBox, FSinn, TeamSpeak and VATSIM Voice. I use Peter Dowson's FSUIPC and WideFS to have the computers communicate with each other (an example is, ActiveSky sends weather information to the gaming machine).

By setting it up this way, It reduces the strain on the Flight Sim machine so i get better performace, and lets the other computer do all the other work needed.

I asked at the wspilots forum and the FSNavigator port
is not optional. Everyone who connects must open this
port !! (Port 23432). The only optional port is Teamspeak. !!

Two PC's in the house Fozzdrops & quite often they're both online at the same time.

Originally one of them was wireless, but that did my head in - so now they're both wired to the router.

Ooooohh, nice X-36, I had one too, loved it until it crapped out on me a couple of months ago.  Gave me a good excuse to get a Cougar though. Grin  Sorry to get off topic, I was just excited to see that someone was still using an X-36. Wink

It's awesome! I've rebuilt it so many times because I dont want to get rid of it! LOL Cheesy In fact, I've removed the rudder control from the stick and wired in some home-made rudder peddals to it, LOL

By the way Mobius, did you correct the port numbers in the router as I stated in a previous post in this thread?

I did, thanks for the heads-up on that, that was the one part I had to guess on a bit, and I guess I guessed wrong (Tongue).  Never really had any problems or complaints before with that though, it seemed to work. ???
