As far as FSscreen goes I figured it was something like that. I'll try that tonight. As far as the compresssion goes, you more or less email yourself with your shots which have been compressed via your email correct? I'll try that tonight as well but it sort of seems redundant emailing pics to yourself that are already there. I'm not knocking your method by any means. If it works for me I will most likly use it all the time. Just seems like there should be an easier way to compress without emailing yourself. Thanks for the info Saitek Wink Anyone else got anymore suggestions on the compression help?
.

No, no - if you follow my instructions you will end up with an email with your pics as attatchments ready to send. Just pull them out of the email "ready to send" and drop them on the desktop.

I do it this way every time I do screenies. Takes seconds. I'll grab you some screenies. You could do dozens in one go like this. Grin

Said what Ben? ???

I assume that if you intend posting these screenshots you want the best possible quality. I don't see how your method would give you that.

Oh I see. You set yourself up with an email that you don't intend to send. Your simply using the emal setup to compress your screenshots, then you drop and drag back to your destop and cancel the email. Once you have droped and dragged the compressed shots back to your desktop, does it go back to it's original weight if you double click on it to say check the image or no?

Not sure what you mean there - but unless your originals are bitmaps (usually FsScreen has them as that) they will be written over.
It is not the best way as Doug points out - but I can't be bothered otherwise if I have lots to do. Otherwise i just use paint.

As stated before I use FSscreen to take the image and then use there resize option to put them at 800X600. When I save the resized (and sometimes edited) shot, I save it to my screenshots folder as a jpeg image per the Sim V guide lines. This is where I get into trouble with the "weight". Your suggestion on utilizing your email to compress the shots should work on jpeg images as well I assume. That being the case I should be ready to rock n roll with my shots unless I'm missing something with your method and or someone else has a different approach. I'll check back here a little later and see...............................

The YAFSScreen that Souichiro mentioned earlier has a quality slider option for JPEG images. http://www.simviation.com/fs2002utilities_gen2.htm
This should make it all automatic once you figure it out. It's similar to the one in IrfanView.

I'll be damned!! I think I see the errors of my ways in your screen. Down toward the bottom right hand corner of your screen there is a slider for quality/size prior to saving. Though it doen't show up like that in mine it DOES show up prior to saving the final image to my screenshot folder. I always had it set to max for best quality. Apparently setting it to max also increases the weight of the image. Dammit!!! I feel like an idiot!! First it was the elusive clipboard now this! Angry All the answers to all of my questions have always been right in front of me. I hope I'm right about this.........I'll do a test shot tonight.

Right. That slider defines the amount of compression which in turn affects the file size of the saved image. It might take a little experimenting before you get it right as the amount of compression will vary according to the size & content of the image. The setting in my shot gives around 100 Kb for an average 800 x 600 screenshot in FS9.

One more question.........I turned IRfanview on before I went to fly last night. Then I set up a flight from Heathrow to Templhof. The settings were great! It was an early morning flight so there was all kinds of dawn shots to be had so I snapped away from taxi to take off to landing. Alas, when I was done with the flight and went to go see the shots I had done, all that was there in the edit/paste section when I clicked on it was the last shot taken where I had parked and shut down Sad. Where did the rest of my shots go? Did I go to the wrong place in Irfanview to retrieve them? At least everything else is sorted with my shots. I would hate to end up spamming a thread to get all of them in one at a time vs a set of 5-6 at once like I keep seeing. I hope there is an easy answer for this Roll Eyes. Thanks AGAIN.

We seem to be talking at cross purposes. It's possible to set up IrfanView to use it as a screengrab utility but I've never used it for that purpose. I suggest you get YAFSScreen & use that for your shots. http://www.simviation.com/fs2002utilities_gen2.htm

Ya I was thinking that right after I posted. I'll give it a try tonight when I get home from work. If I like it better which I'm sure I will I'll toss the Irfanview. Thanks for the link and your help once again Wink

Horses for courses. Use YAFSScreen to take the shots as that's what it was intended for. Don't get rid of IrfanView as it can be very useful for processing the shots afterwards if necessary.
