I Know this may sound like a stupid question but can you use CFS aircraft in CFS2.I have read on this forum that people have converted planes from one to another but cant find any info on how to do it.I would hazzard a guess that CFS planes would more FRS freindly than the larger CFS2 files meaning I could use more of them at one time.If this is so please let me know how and I will give it a go.Thanks.  Richard

Hi Richard. It's possible to use most FS98, CFS1 & FS2000 aircraft in CFS2. You might need to realias the panel & sound CFG files for them to display on the menu. They might also need DP files.

Thanks Hager. How about if I use them only as AI.Im basicly looking for planes that are not to detailed to keep a decent FRS.They will be used as cannon fodder for my Spifires but I will not be flying them. Its all to confusing for my little aussie brain. How do I re alias the cfg files?Ive got brain pains. Richard.

For the aliasing check out my Lair from the link my sig. http://www.simviation.com/lair/aliasing1.htm

The less complex models of FS98/CFS1 aircraft might well be less graphics intensive but the problem with using them for AI is that some animations probably won't display correctly. The later FSDS2/Gmax models will obviously be best for the purpose but some might be frame rate hogs. It really depends how they were designed. The aircraft used in the Fox Four campaigns (including my own "cartoon scale" AI Only drones) were specially created to give decent frame rates in missions together with the latest features.

Hi Richard,
Try using any of my planes for CFS2(AS_Planes) as they are designed in AF99 and they keep the frame rate down.  No need to try and add files, they work perfectly in CFS2 and make great AI planes.  They are fully animated as well.  Any problems, email me and I can give you my phone number(I live in Grafton NSW).

Thanks

Richaduk not only is  Diestaffel wonderful planes available but there is also ready to down load right here in Simviation from CFS1 airplane pack for CFS2 already converted.

Here they are: http://www.simviation.com/cfs2aircraft1.htm

Here is what they are call:
CFS2 Axis Planes Europe Expansion Pack Plane
and
CFS2 Allied Planes Europe Expansion Pack Plane

I do not how good they are as Ai. Try them out and if they do not satisfy you simply delete them.

Enjoy

Now I know who made those planes Ive been using. Thanks DieStaffel for those 2 packs.Ive had them installed for some time now but didnt know who made them. They work fine as AI and I do enjoy shooting the hell out of them. You say you live in Graffton.I lived in the hills around melbourne for 34 years before returning to the UK.I should be back in oz within 2 years.Hello James.Nice to hear from you again.Ive just done a full re enstall and backed it up as you suggested and its working great.Even with full graphics turned on Im not having any problems with 30-40 aircraft at one time.I think part of the trouble was a bad scenery file so ive just used the one you suggested.I will have a look for some 109s in different Staffel markings and see what i come up with. Thanks again and keep the great advice coming. Richard.

I think you're getting confused. The Allied & Axis expansion packs are the CFS1 default aircraft converted to work in CFS2 by CA Simpson. They've been posted here for a very long time. Die Staffel's aircraft are posted on the latest pages in the CFS1 & CFS2 sections. (Mike Colclough & Gerald Keagan here & on the previous pages. http://www.simviation.com/cfs2aircraft106.htm) I've only tried one so far but it seems these have all been "Scasm edited" to work correctly as AI in both sims. These would be ideal for use as AI aircraft in QC & missions. Excellent work.

Heres a question for you. What file does mission builder use to recognise aircraft.I have several spits in my hanger from different model makers and several sets of skins for them. But! When for instance I put my VB MK1a into CFS2 using 19 sqd textures and again using 54 sqd textures mission builder shows 2 planes of that name but only 1 set of textures. It confuses the shit out of me.Free flight shows both as Ive renamed 1 folder spit1a and the other spitfire1a.Any ideas, and if so what do I need to change.Catch ya soon.Richard.

The aircraft names displayed in the Mission Builder drop-down menu come from the title line in the plane's aircraft.cfg file.  If you have two planes with the same title that name will appear twice in MB.  That isn't true in Free Flight.

Generally in Free Flight the names displayed are again from the title line in the aircraft.cfg file.  However, in FF if two planes have the same title the game displays the title name for one of the planes and the folder name of the other.

Multiple skins can cause issues in MB.  If you have a plane with multiple skins and and the aircraft.cfg file entries are correct, you will see the title for each plane in the drop-down menu.  You can select either or both planes and place them in your mission.  HOWEVER, what happens next depends on how your skins and models are configured.

If you have a single aircraft folder with multiple skins and each skin has its own Model folder and model file assigned to it MB treats each one as a separate plane and you can fly both planes, each with its own skin, in the same mission.

On the other hand, if the two skins share the same model file then you can only use one of them at a time in the same mission.  Unfortunately MB doesn't tell you this when writing the mission.  It allows you to select both and save the mission but when you go to fly it you will get an error message and the mission won't load.

If you have a favorite plane with multiple skins and you choose to make copies of the plane's folder and place a different skin into each folder, make sure that the folder names as well as the title names in the aircraft.cfg file are different to insure that they all show up properly in both MB and FF.

Based on my experience these seem to be the general rules.

Hi Richard,
Changing the file format of CFG to notepad should not cause any problems whatsoever.  I use notepad all the time on my WinXP PC to modify my CFG files and it has no impact on any of the over 100 programs I have on my PC.  I believe that somehow your CFG file may have become corrupted and if all else fails, copy your planes you have downloaded into a backup folder and uninstall and reinstall CFS2.  An easier way would be however is to use the restore function in Windows XP and restore your settings to a previous date.  You will lose any program information of programs installed since that date, but it should make everything work as before.  Consult Microsoft help on how to restore if you are unfamiliar with the process(it is very easy to do, takes about 3 minutes to restore if you follow the instructions).

regards

Hi Rich,
That should not be a problem. I always use note pad for opening CFG files.
