The year dot. When everything began.
Woodlouse2002 PITA and BAR!!!!!!!!&&&&Our Sovereign Lord the King chargeth and commandeth all persons, being assembled, immediately to disperse themselves, and peaceably to depart to their habitations, or to their lawful business, upon the pains contained in the Act made in the first year of King George the First for preventing tumults and riotous assemblies. God Save the King.&&&&Viva la revolution!

History happens right after it happened as it has moved from the present into the past
There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Either Past Simple (it happened) or Past Simple Continuous (it happened and is still happening) methinks
I spent most of yesterday afternoon teaching this and it has driven me bats so today I've got some nice "Civilisation" lessons.... aka talk about something and then watch a short program about it, e.g. racism and bigotry followed by Fawlty Towers "The Germans" episode. Can you believe I've been getting away with this malarky for 7 years?

No - just starting to get a handle on Reverse Polish Notation to apply it to XML coding ... except I tried applying it to grammar ... (not that the "children" of today are required to learn it since it would stifle their creativity and otherwise hurt their self esteem)

i had a couple run-ins with my history teacher because i couldn't understand that ancient empires became "known to man" when some european laid eyes on them.

Earliest recorded history was probably a human handprint in pigment or soot (or blood) on stone. Someone was trying to tell a story.

I guess that would be His-story then!
