The callsigns used in CFS2 are stored in the callsign.dat file found in the INFO folder.  You can add additonal callsigns to existing nationalities or add new nationalities with their own callsigns. Open the file using Notepad and follow the existing format to make changes.

You can also hand edit the mission file to change callsigns that are specific to that mission only, such as to add actual pilot names for each individual plane.

However, the stock CFS2 comes with German callsigns already listed in the callsign.dat file.  If you're flying for Germany but seeing British names it's possible the nationality was set wrong in the mission for your flight.

Of course, if your surrounded by names like Heinz Afyre, Heinz Schottupp or such, it was probably an intentional milieu. Grin 8)

PS: I was working on a new country.cfg section for Germany not long ago. It has many, many, many new names, all the proper ranks and it doesn't take only about 2 missions to easily get promoted Roll Eyes You go from Gefreiter right up to General der Fleiger (I think) and only long campaigns will get you near the top rank. Other features too....Wink

Hey! what Coyote told you is right. Who ever made this missions just place the planes under the wrong country headings.

That is very simple to correct. Just go back to the mission builder and change the country heading for the players plane on that mission.

Here is tutorial on the mission builder.

"The devil is in the details" as they say and if I had paid closer attention to the topic heading I would have noticed that you were refering to a campaign mission and not a single mission.  As Bombardier101 pointed out, wingmen names in campaign missions come from the country.cfg file and not from the callsign.dat file.

If you open the country.cfg file using Notepad you'll notice that under the American and Japanese nationalities there are sections for "first_names" and "last_names".  These are a collection of first and last names that CFS2 randomly picks from to create the names of your wingmen.

The stock country.cfg file has Germany listed as a nationality but it does not contain any German names.  As a result, when you fly a German campaign mission the game grabs American names for your wingmen.  This could be your problem.  If you dropped a German campaign into your game but never modified the country.cfg file it would explain what you are seeing.

There are a couple of solutions.  First you could add your own list of German first and last names to the country.cfg file following the format for American and Japanese names.  Second you could download one of the nationality packs that contain additional UIRES images and updated country.cfg information, including appropriate names.  Those packs are available from several different download sites including here at Simviation if I am not mistaken.

Based on what you posted I would suspect your problem is either no German names in your country.cfg file or the nationality is set wrong in the mission files as I described above.  Both of those things need to be correct to see German names.  In other words, just adding German names to your country.cfg file won't solve your problem if the nationality in the mission is also wrong.
