In keeping with many members requests to use a default plane whenever possible to maximize framerates, we have decided to use.......

Bombardier Lear

...

The reason we take time to announce the plane is that we must do a lot of testing as we develop the racecourse and must be certain the aircraft we select is suitable for all aspects of the course. We can't be sure of that until the course is completely constructed. So please keep in mind there are many hours of work involved in creating these races for everyone, and we do our best to accomadate everyone. We'll provide more race details in the days ahead, hopefully it'll be worth your wait.. Wink

Repaint Kit for the Learjet is available here:

http://www.simviation.com/fs_paintkits2.htm

When you're done, just send it to Gryshnak for distribution. Or, you can send a request to him for a repaint once he opens his repaint shop. 8)

I would encourage everyone to do a google image search, there are some really neat paint jobs to be found on corporate learjets already.  Go get some inspiration!

And I thought this was going to be an easy repaint - take a close look at the wing, particularly around the control surfaces.
...
Those squares line up neatly on the bitmap.
...
Thanks again Micro$oft  Roll Eyes  I suggest anyone doing a repaint puts their textures on the fuselage, and leaves all the wing in one colour.

It'll do for now, but there are still some bits I'm not very happy about.  Never mind, there's still time to fiddle with it.

There are plenty of add-on planes that are just as FPS friendly as the default planes, with much straighter texture maps, for consideration later in the race season...

Here's a map of Lear45_T.bmp for anyone who wants to try their own repaint.

Thanks for that Gryshnak Wink

Came up with my own paint (still in blue colours).

...

Just one question. How do you go about reducing the file size of the bitmap, yet still keep the 32 bit colour? My BMPs are 4mb, but the Extra 300 race paints are 2.66Mb, and 32 bit colour. Don't suppose it has something to do with DXT?

Oh, and Ashar, love the paint Wink Very smart!

Nice Ashar and F3, I need help deciding on mine though:

The first looks alot like Ashar's in that it's black also, but a little different...
...

Or another one I found in the default Lear 45 folder, courtesy of Microsoft, and a little tweaking by me....
...

I'm not too good at repaints, but I can't decide which to use. Grin Wink

I really like the pattern on the first one! Hope you don't mind me stealing your idea of putting my name on the engines (as well as under the cockpit on mine Wink). I should spruce mine up a little!

I don't mind at all Tweek, but it's not painted on, it's just the Tail Number, or the number changed in the aircraft.cfg file, but I don't really know what the one in the .cfg file does, so I just did it in the sim. Wink

And Cspyro, thanks, but I can't take credit, it's the file Lear45_D in the default lear texture folders, I just added the 117, and my name, I might change some numbers and add some lines, but I don't know if I will be able to do it so well. Grin Wink

Putting your name on the engines looks neat, until you go around the other side and realise both engines use the same texture.

The fin has separate left and right textures, so you can put text on there without it getting reversed.  Pretty much everything else on the Lear is mirrored.

Just to let everyone know, my paint scheme will always be White, Yellow, and Blue with the 314th Airlift Wing patch on the tail and/or wings.

Update:

The name needs work, but other than that, it looks real nice even with the slightly-shifted textures.

Damn, you guys are good - looks like I'm gonna have to spend sometime reading Gryshnaks painting tutorial - still not sure whether I will be definately available for the next race - but at the moment things are looking up - for the race anyway.

Cheers,

TSC.

I just saw all these paints.....amazing stuff! Looks like you're  having as much fun (or more) doing the paints as you do racing! Race should be in 2 1/2 weeks or so. Keep and eye out in freeware over the next couple of days for the upcoming Wargames. Cspyro and I are cooking up something I think everybody will have a blast participating in.
