The F-16 just has two nicknames..
If one guy says, that the F-16 is a Viper, he is correct
If another guys says, that the exact F-16 is a Fighting Falcon, he is also correct!

Cheers Theis

Viper is the unoffical name... inspired by Battlestar Galactica if we have to believe F-16.net

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here

I thought that the Name Viper appeared at first when the Israeli's modded some of their Falcons? Eventually the F-16 Falcon was made suitable better for ground attacks? (Dunnmo though)

Falcon : King of the air

Viper: King of the Ground? (or at least a decent predator)

Nothing to do with Israel Smiley. The name Viper was around since the prototype stage (as being mentioned) and was mostly used by its pilots, who thought it looks more like a snake than a Falcon (and since Cobra was already taken by the YF-17, they went on the F-16 Viper).

The Fighting Falcon is its working title, so to speak.
Viper is the name some Air Force Pilots give it, like the strike it delivers when it attacks Roll Eyes Like a snake striking Grin Grin Eh? Get it?

True, Israel (through collaboration with other countries i think) DID modify the  original F-16 , however it was designated a whole new fighter, the F-2A. This was designed to be used as a fighter-bomber and boasted a new alloy body and the ability to carry long-range anti-ship missiles.

False. Israel DID modify the F-16, but it had and has nothing to do with the F-2. The F-2 first appeard in 1987, 7 years after Israel got its first F-16. The F-2 is the name of the highly modified F-16 made for Japan.

The name Viper was made up by the American pilots, a long time before Israel got its first F-16.
