Quote:Early in 2007, there was a discussion between many of the website hosters and it was agreed to put CFS1 and FS98 to bed
2007 eh? many website hosters eh? hmmm, lol. There was me thinking the Zone had just decided to pull it and announced at the end of last year (2005).
lol RR5
CFS4 has been canned for the moment but there is a lot of work already done on it and it may yet be resurrected later. At the moment Tucker's recognised that IL2 are running the ball and decided to wait for a better opportunity.
FS 2006 is now FS-X for which screenies can be found
hereCFS1 was released in December '98. It's is being pulled from the Zone because of M$'s commercial re-organisation plans for the Zone. Part of a major overhaul which will see the Zone we know disappear and be replaced by something similar but
"improved" (in M$'s mind). CFS1 and CFS2 are still being hosted on other host sites (HyperLobby and Gamespy to name two such where you can still find it alive and loved by the its' avid fans, long after all the Zone Jehova's first predicted... well, let's stay off that topic.
).
There are threads in here and other forums advising how to activate these sites to continue flying CFS online.
It would have been nice for M$ to use the online address included on the game cd (part of their contract commitment to the purchaser) as a re-direct to those sites continuing to host the game now they are no longer interested in it. But then, who really expects such support from M$ Zone, given their history in this area?
They asked for a petition of support which was given. They suggested they'd change their minds if enough e-mail which has been done. It has been.
M$ customers wait, and watch.
As for the demise of the flight sim genre, IL2 seems to be thriving. I'm not a fan of it myself, but I can't deny the numbers and enthusiasm present. Everyone flying it seems to be eagerly anticipating the release of IL2 "Battles of Britain" sometime this year as well.
