Well, when I checked the Gmax files that I backed up just prior to my last reinstall of Windows, it turns out I backed up the wrong Gmax file. Instead of the one where the car's skin is completely modeled, I ended up with the one where just the front side was barely finished. This means that I have to start over again. Sad

...

I should have backed up all the stages of the project rather than selecting one. Lesson #221312548: Always back up ALL stages of your projects just prior to cleaning out your computer. Grin

Well, look at the bright side. At least the complicated parts of the skin are almost finished. Roll Eyes

Well, I use to help a couple of people make planes. I couldn't do the outside very well, but the interior always looked nice. After that, my attention switched to cars [long story].

thanks too guys like you Katahu   My sim looks more realistic now  with ai cars on the default roads, and around the airports.  Keep the good work up mate.  Yea I know just what you mean by backup your work  I've just uploaded a repaint of Mike Stones a380-800 in Sri Lankan liveries  Only after doing it twice  Mess a file up and its start again.  but not from the begining  with backups.

Cheers

The outer skin is almost done. All I need to make now is the front hood and roof.

Modeling a car's skin is usually the most teadious part of the process since I am making the skin one polygon at a time. I am thinking of modeling some of the components of the interior using the same technique, especially for the center console since it's at an angle towards the driver. Other than that, it should be fairly easy to model.

I discovered a website long ago that has photos that cover almost every nook and cranny of the car itself. And the photos are so detailed, I can use many parts of them as textures by simply using PSP. But most of the photoreal textures will be confined to the interior while the exterior will be covered with a single-piece texture made with the the 3-views I found.

I'll post shots of the project as soon as I'm done with the car's skin.

Fantastic Katahu

I'm looking forwards too seeing the screenshots of the Nissan. I've just started playing with GMAX' but that is all that I can do. I realy do not understand the program at all. However I couldn't fly an aircraft untill I got into one and learnt. I have now had my pilots licence since sept 1981 yet i don't think that GMAX will be as easy:-)))

The basic skin is now finished. Now I have to figure out a way to model the interior walls to match the photos. The wireframe shows how teadious my job is when modeling such a car one poly at a time.
