What would a good overclock for a ATI Radeon 9200SE be? The cooling in my case is pretty bad, the only fan has a hood over it to duct all the airflow directly over the processor's heatsink, so I dont think that my card can take much before it fries itself. Which may not be a bad thing...

Well you could use ATi tool to OC it, but you should really think about doing something to better the cooling in your case before you think about doing an overclock. Also rember to unlock your core in the options first, so your overclocks actually function.

I wouldn't bother, it's a 9200 for heaven's sake. I've said it before and I'll say it again...........

Best you might be able to do is Flash the BIOS to a 9600SE and then clock it. That is given if you dont burn the chip off the card.

Ill probably blow my first 4 or 5 paychecks on a good card. Probably an X800, maybe a 7800, assuming of course, that the parents will let me...

Why would you get outdated tech? The X1800XT and XL are where its at. The X1900XTX would be the prefered card, 48 pixel pipelines and a 3DMark05 score of 1300+. Heck this card is better than two 7800GT's in SLi. But it'll cost you in the area of $600. Best bet is a X1800XL. $300 and beats out the 7800GT.

The ATI trade up program lets you trade in you old card for a $50 rebate on a new card. Thats what I would suggest...

Cameron read the 1900xtx specs agian plz. The card does not have 48 pipelines, it has 48 pixel processing units. It has actully 16 pipelines. Also you are forgetting that it is marginlly faster than a 7800GTX 512 card and the 7900GTX comming in a few weeks will smoke the 1900XTX with 32 real piplines and even higher core speed, its expected around 600-650mhz. I wouldn't waste my time with ATI this year, they are rather disapointing agian. Its like there 8500, they almost won 2002 untill well GF4 smoked them, same here. Cameron I would ask you to research your GPU's before posting incorrect information, because pixel processing units are not the same as pipelines. And pipelines are still better.

Wait for DX10 cards, then you will see the full range of features in FSX.
My system:
Intel Q6600@3.6GHz, Corsair XMS2 4GB DDR2-6400 (4-4-4-12-1T) , Sapphire 7850 OC 2BG 920/5000, X-Fi Fatality, Corsair AX 750, 7 Pro x64

I fully agree. the X2800 and 8800 will be out this fall, from both parties. Me being an Nvidia fan will wait for the 8600 GT though. Just as I really wanna see if the 7600GT is offered in AGP if not ill save fore a 7800GS

About 10% over stock speed would be good, though I don't think the 9200s are good overclockers. Without front/rear case fans and after market heatsinks, you're not in a good position to get much extra out of it. Even an excellent overclock on that card won't yield much more performance. Best bet is a new one.

It's an AGP mobo. The cards he mentioned are excellent for such, barring a system overhaul.

Best bet for an AGP would be 7800GS, best over all for PCIE would be to get a 7900GT.

Here's a simple cooling idea, worked for my friends XBOX 360, probably not for a PC. just take a regular cooling fan from around your house and stick it right next to your PC

For a more practical approach to PC cooling look to Zalman for your heatsink needs.

I've decided that my best option is to bite the bullet and get off my lazy arse. Yea, I don't believe it either, but I'm actually going to get a job this spring. Between cutting 3 lawns a week ($120/w)and a real job ($40-$80/w), I should have enough cash laying around to buy a new system by the time everone comes out with thier new hardware, driving the price of old, but still decent stuff down, providing that my parents let me buy a system. I'm not in a good finiancial position at the moment. I'll be in Germany for 10 days in June ($1500), I'll be 17 in December, which means a car (1-2000) plus insurance (an ungodly high amount), and colledge in a few years. With any luck, and some hard work, I can get most, if not all of my tuition and books covered by the good tax-paying citizens of the United States, plus a small allowance. Which will then be paid off by at least 6 years in the Marine Corps, most likely life. Unfortunatly this may not be possible due to my borderline asthmatic condition.

Well now thats one hell of a situation to be in (BTW have fun in Germany). Just remember that the current stuff will only go down about $70 (processers) and the DX9 GPUs are going to be phased out very fast once the new DX10 ones roll off the lines. However building a high end system for less than $1000 is achieveable. Also remember that the minimum wage in the US (well MA atleast) is going up to $8.50 an hr. Thus meaning that if you work a 20 hr week you make $170 a week. Then most places give raises once every 3~6 months (Gerocery stores / K-Mart usually do 25 Cents every 4ish) so by the end of a year you could be making $9 an hour making $180 a week. Therefore I believe that with the correct motavation your dreams of a new rig are closer than you think. Also there is such things as birthdays and X-Mas.
Cheers

I'm moving to Mass! In Jersey they only give us 6.15, going up to 7.15 minimum in October. I'm getting a job with my neighbor instead of retail, he owns a landscaping business and he told me he could give me $18 an hour. (instead of 6.20 at the grocery store)
