You know, the guy who wrote the song about the wreck of the edmund fitzgerald?
Just curious to see how many other people have actually heard of him! His music is probably the first thing I remember from my childhood....baking cookies in the middle of winter in the kitchen with my dad listening to his old school TAPES of Gordon Lightfoot

He was popular in the UK back in the 1970s mainly among the folk music fans. I have a couple of vinyl albums but haven't listened to them for years. 'If You Could Read My Mind' & ' Early Morning Rain' are about the only singles I can think of. I think they were minor hits. I was never a big fan myself.

She’s been lookin’ like a queen in a sailor’s dream
And she don’t always say what she really means
Sometimes I think it’s a shame
When I get feelin’ better when I’m feelin’ no pain
From "Sundown", the other big hit... I still think that's a classic single. Really tasty guitar solo, too...

The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and Sundown were good songs when they came out. Still think they're great. I listen to a classic station on the radio and just heard Sundown the other day.
Man it sucks when the music you remember comes out on a Time Life album.

Indeed an awesome song!
Has anyone heard the latest stuff from his "harmony" cd? I've found that the songs on that cd are either really good or really bad in my opinion....
I've been playing more and more of his stuff on my 12 string and most of it sounds pretty good and is easy to play

Gordon Lightfoot, The best folk singer SIMPLEY! in my oppinion, Love his music, have heard every single song of his (or very close to em all) the new stuff is good even though his voice is somewhat weak but its all good, Another good singer is Lee Murdock.... Most prolly never heard of him, he's a local folk singer about the great lakes in MN,IL,MI,Indiana and maybe a few other states around the lakes have a look for his site, has 3 songs up for download..... Cheers, Gunny! And I love ALL of lightfoots music!
EDIT: I saw Lee Murdock in concert and he did the Wreck of the Fitzgearld wasnt too bad either, the guy can simply pull off a good show for 10-20 USD a person!

I have been a fan of Gordon Lightfoots music for a long time. I think my favorite is probably The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerld. Although, I really like Sundown as well as Early Morning Rain.
