Welcome pilots to the SimV International Airshow!
Planning is still in it's stages, and now Tweek and I want to know exactly what aircraft you are flying, and we would like you to provide a link so everybody can download the aircraft. (I know this was asked in the other thread but this is just to make it easier for Tweek and myself.)

As for the location......look for EGDY.....aka RNAS Yeovilton - so far, it'll be big enough to accommodate the display aircraft!

http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/showthingy1

There are also a few "no-fly-zones" around the airfield-  this is where the crowd will be when watching a display. Try not to fly over the heads of the spectators:-

http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/showthingy2
Tweek also wanted to mention a UK2000 scenery demo which enhances the area and airport, found here

A new thread with a programme of the airshow will be up soon!

In order to simplify things on the day, please state what aircraft you will be using by Wednesday, 20:00GMT. This way, I'll be able to create the programme there and then, and people will have enough time to download the necessary ones.

The show will most likely be starting at around 16:00-20:00 GMT, this Saturday, depending on what suits most people.

May I also ask for people to put a
*
at the beginning of their post, if they don't mind opening the show (being the first to display).

[edit] And I almost forgot the most important part of my post!

I'll be using the Simshed AI Tucano from:
http://www.simshed.co.uk/download/tucai.asp
or
http://www.simviation.com/fs2004props92.htm

Also, the Aeroplane Heaven Hurricane:
www.aeroplaneheaven.com.
First download on the 'Free Stuff' page.

well it adds to the whole realism of it. Plus, it's much easier to follow a display that's exclusively infront of you. F1View is good, but it doesn't pan fast enough for you to keep looking overhead and behind you.

And Theis, are you flying the F-14?

Heres my time issues:  during the week, I dont get out of school till 2020GMT.  On saturday, I have a guitar lesson at 1930GMT-2000gmt.

Heres an Idea: Next monday if Martin Luther king jr day.  There is no school for americans, so maybe we can do it on that monday at 2000gmt.

It could always be a Sunday. Week nights can get pretty hectic, especially later on. We don't know how long this display will last, so it would probably be a good idea to hold it on the Sunday. Maybe a bit earlier, say 17:00GMT. I don't know yet, we'll have to see what suits everyone.

Negative.
at 20.00GMT, im not allowed to fly, because its schoolday next day for me..
its ok, if this was a only american event, but it isn't.
there is alot of europeans, that have work, and need to bed earlyer than the american (note! i said Europeans, not brits!) People like me, live in GMT+1 and then its 21.00!

so your plan is good, but it can't work...

Just my 2 $...

Well, Jakemaster has a guitar lesson at 19:30-20:00GMT Saturday. I'm pretty sure it will be finished by then if we start the event at 17:00GMT, usually trouble free for most people.

It's just about impossible to work out a time which would suit everyone. We're just gonna have to get the best out of it.

I'd prefer if it started no later than 17:00GMT, if it runs for an hour (quite likely) then it clashes with meal times.  Most scheduled events run later than planned anyway, don't they?  If you plan for 16:00GMT, it'll probably start somewhere between 16:30 and 17:00  Grin

Nuh uh.  I dont mean go behind, just fly over.  The snowbirds went over and behind the crowed alot.  I plan on using the shorter runway as a guide for flybys, but have one fly by where im coming straight at you

Haha Cheesy You could have picked something a little smaller in file size Tongue Lets just hope it's not a laggy aircraft in multiplayer. I think Cessnas for spectators is gonna be vital.

And yes, a plane change is perfectly alright, up until Wednesday 20:00GMT. After then, changes are forbidden, as people will simply get confused by what they have to download. Including myself!

Hmm, I seem to have problems downloading from fileshare.de. Is it available on any of the Flight Sim sites?

Well if it doesn't work for some people, then switch to the RAF model first, just so a Hunter shows up.

Now I gotta go searching for a good plane to use! Grin
I'll be there if I can get my multiplayer working.
Jake, the reason you can fly over the crowd is that the FAA states "no aircraft shall have its energy directed at the spectators in case the pilot should lose control" military aircraft, however, seem to be exempt from this rule. (Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, and Snowbirds always have a section where you lose all the aircraft then they come flying right overhead from directly behind you. They are only flying in formation though, and are not performing any aerobatic manouvers while doing this.

Monday nights are certainly not possible for me. Sunday nights are the most assured time for me personally (UK is currently in GMT time).
As previously stated I would like to display the Kirk Olsson F16 Viper. I will be displaying the default model so no need for repaints. It can be found on most FS websites including SimV at http://www.simviation.com/fs2004military2.htm
My only concern is whether or not the file size of 15MB is too large?
Also, I assume this black line would represent the display line then?

Yep, it's gonna have to be Saturday, as I can't make Sunday. I hope it's suitable for most people. I know Jakemaster will have to be gone by 19:30(GMT), so a 17:00 start would be ideal. We'll set up a poll on it.

on the no-fly area we agreed yesterday sort of that the taxiway was the crowd line sothat you could do various things over the runway.

Yeah, the crowd sits behind the taxiway, and aircraft are permitted to fly over the runway (which is the closest you can get).

I was going to do something in the Taifun, but it doesn't perform very well. It turns kinda funny and the engine quits when inverted. I have to go find a good plane, but for now I was planing to do a fly-by in Mike Stones C-130, and the RCS B-25.

I'm all for the C-130, as Mike Stone's aircraft are great for multiplayer. Maybe you should even do a role demo, and not just  a flyby. But the RCS B-25 is a 54Mb download, which for one, will cause some frame rate issues, and two, for people on dial-up, that's a pretty heafty download.

It's probably best to stick to just the C-130, or find a B-25 that's smaller in file size.

Sorry, I didn't realize the B-25 was so big. What do you mean by a "role demo"? That would probably make things much easier as I'm not that good of an aerobatic pilot. Mike also as a KC-135R, so if anyone is good at formation flying and wants to do an aireal refueling demo with me that would be fun.

Could we have an individual thread only for listing what aircraft are needed and links to where we can get them please, as it's hard to pick them out from this thread?

Yes. When I post the programme, with all the aircraft, and what order they'll be flown in, people can clearly re-post the links to them. Then, I'll add it to the main post.

I'll be there with the Antonov AN-225, always a crowd pleaser! Mictheslik has offered to fly in formation with me in a Mike Stone C17, maybe the C130 would like to lead so we could have transports increasing in size?

Sure. I should be able to keep the old girl straight and level for a few miles. Hardest part is the turns, I'm impatient and and don't set up the turns properly. Should have it polished by saturday though. I'm just going to use the C-130 and do a  high-speed, dirty low-speed, and LAPE (low alt. parachute extraction, minus the parachutes and cargo though). Unless somebody else can come up with some ideas. Not much you can do with a Herky-bird.

At airshows I was always impressed by a C130 demonstrating STOL capabilities - landing as short as possible, coming to a full stop, then taking off again using as little runway as possible.

The RAF Hercules display has a tactical demonstration, STOL, dirty pass and a lot of tight turning. Certainly well worth watching.

By the way, to get the Avro Lancaster (the display Tweek and I will fly) you need the FS2002 version here, the normal B.III not the "Dambusters" edition and the FS2004 update here

Enjoy! Smiley

I'm just wondering whether Dave Eckert's Stearman would be better to use. I've heard that Robert Sanderson's Stearman is quite heavy on frames, and it's 30mb in size.

Dave Eckert's at a slightly more modest 17mb:

I'll put you down for a display, but if you displayed the Dave Eckert version, it would be much appreciated Smiley

Woah, Theis! Our Tucanos are RAF aircraft Smiley But nice idea though, I felt like splitting it up like that myself. I've shuffled the programme around a bit, so we don't get clumps of the same kind of aircraft.

Can't stunt in the Eckert one to save me life! That one  is more for gentle and easy flights.. The Sanderson one is more modern and more powerfull. It's a stunters delight!!

Im going to start FS right now to see if I might be able to find anothe suitable airplane.. Maybe the Legacy or something like it

My offer for an aerial refuel demo still stands. I got my show down pretty good now, but am still open for ideas, had an "incident" on the short landing yesterday. I did a tailstand, Arkansas ANG commander almost tore my head off. Grin
Also, I may need a little help getting multi to work, I've had problems in the past. I dont know if its my firewall or my ISP, more likley the latter though.

Tell me if I'm missing out on something which seems quite obvious to me...
...but...
If all you lot are using different 3rd party downloaded aircraft how are you going to "view" each other...
You will all appear as variants of the default aircraft both to each other and also in any screen shots of the events....

That's the idea. Once the entries are closed on Wed, the list of AC and links on where to get them will be posted. A bit aof a fuss I know but the only way to do it. That's why some AC have been changed already as they either have low framerate performance or are huge files to try and help lower PC's and dial up users.

That's 100% correct. Unfortunately, that's how it's got to be to put on an event like this, but it will be worth it in the end!

Chomp and I will be doing the refuel. I'll be running the KC-135R, not sure what hes doing though.
That brings my aircraft to Mike Stone's C-130, and his KC-135R. And my displays are a refuel demo, An-225-C-17-C-130 flyby, and my C-130 demo.

Is there an in progress programme in the works that we could see?

I would love to be able to fly a Eurofighter Typhoon display as I have some quite amazing things I would like to show you guys that it can do.

If you need someone to help with the Air Refuelling display I would be happy to do so with the typhoon. I'm pretty good with formation flying so it could be cool.

The typhoon is available here at SimV but I'm sure you all knew that anyway, it is the DSB Typhoon.

I hope I'm not too late.

*

P.S. It would be cool if we assign someone with a powerful rig to take screenshots of the show. They could slew around and get some cool shots.

It looks like I'll be using an F-117 or F-111 for the refueling, the KC-135 has a probe, not a basket so it needs to be an aircraft with a receptacle.

Both the F-117 (here: http://www.simviation.com/fs2004military19.htm)

And the F-111F (here: http://www.pmstone.com/AircraftMilitary.htm)

Are very framerate friendly and are small downloads (3 and 1.8mb respectively).

Here's an idea, why don't we open the show with a fly-by of all the RAF aircraft in formation since it's a British airfield.

On the topic of RN aircraft it's a shame there isn't a Sea Vixen display as it's a great aircraft but I haven't seen any good models.
