Tweek and I have had a little idea.....what do you guys think?

THE SIMV INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW

http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/simvairshow

Bringing the skilled wacky pilots of SimV  -together in an online airshow!!

Be prepared to dazzle the crowds with an array of tactical manoeuvers, stunning stunts, great formations and maybe even a mock dogfight!

How did you get the idea for the airshow?
The SimV International airshow was planned by Tweek and I after the latest leg of the UK tour, which was quite a good flight (after all, Fozzer was there Cheesy). Tweek and I put on a small airshow, and decided to make things on a lerger scale......here it is.

I want to fly in the airshow!
If you want to fly at the airshow, please do! You must state what aircraft you intend to fly in this thread and please provide a link so the spectators and other pilots can see your aircraft.

What happens after my display?
After you've dazzled the crowds, please land your aircraft and taxi to a point where you can see the active runway (so you don't miss the action) and please switch back to the Cessna 172 - just to keep things as framerate friendly as possible for those with "modest" systems.

If I were going to do a display with one or more pilots, what should I do?
If you are going to perform with other pilots (i.e. mock dogfight) please discuss your plans with the other people youy intend to fly with, then state in this thread what you will be doing and what you will be flying.

When is the airshow?
As of yet, Tweek and i have not discussed a set time. We will allow enough time for you all to download the aircraft that the displayers will be flying. Smiley

Where will the Airshow be held?
The airshow is most likely to be hosted on WSP's servers - nothing as yet has been planned.

Finally, what do I do if i just want to watch?
If you're not the person who likes to fly at 500KIAS plus, just come along in a Cessna 172, park up and enjoy the show!!

We hope to see you all there!

So, what do you guys think of the idea?

And also, please, if anyone does actually decide to take part, try to use aircraft with low filesizes (for those 'dial-upers' among us! Wink)

We'll get people's word on the matter before we go planning it any further.

Sounds great guys! Cheesy

I'd but love to participate, AND shoot all of it in FRAPS, afterwards I'll put a movie together. Of course this will only be possible if I get my PC reformated in time, but that shouldn't be a problem, it'll most probably be done by tomorrow. Smiley

I'll drop a note later with what aircraft I'll be flying, I just wanted to know what you think about my idea?

I'd love to display either the Kirk Olsson F16 or DSB Typhoon Grin

Your idea sounds great Ecko Grin

I must say though I will need help with how to join the game though cause I'm clueless on methods for joing FS games other than standard IP. ???

Well if you shoot a video, we can definitely wait for you! It will have to be next weekend or something, so that people have a chance to download aircraft.

Wow, can you actually display that?
I tried but couldn't come to terms with the woefully underpowered engine it has.

its pretty good to do an airshow in and also very maneuverable,

Clipper, i wouldn't class you as an amateur as your good at aerobatics.

I'll be flying the Stock Piper Cub and will try to put on a good display in it  Grin, and also maybe if a couple of others would like to try "A formation Flypast" with different vintage a/c.

Nemo.........

{EDIT} will also probably do an inverted Flypast down the Rway Center line in the DC-3 and maybe the AN225{/EDIT}

Sounds good so far Smiley When it comes closer to the time (we haven't decided when, yet), we'll start a thread so you can post what aircraft to get and where to get it.

I myself will be flying the Tucano. Has good rudder control for knife edge passes Wink

We'll have to think up a schedule aswell, so it doesn't turn into a "CAN I GO NEXT?!" fest! Then, the next displayer can be ready to taxi onto the runway as soon as one touches down. Hopefully, the planning and execution shall run smoothly!

Oh and also, if you do not have Active Camera,
I strongly recommend F1View
. That way you'll be able to move out of your C172 virtual cockpit, and move your veiwpoint so you can actually follow the display without the use of the number pad keys Smiley

Yes, I've thought that myself. As long as it has a long enough runway, we'll be fine. Probably somewhere in the UK, with one long runway, so the pilots don't get confused as to what runways they are lined up with.

Hey guys, good t hear this have got the "thumbs-up"!! Smiley

I myself will be flying the DSB Tornado F3 (absoluetly in love with it Cheesy, see pic at first post), link to the download here, near bottom of page. Quite a big-ish file, but fin to fly and great to watch. If you find that this file might be too big for the "dial-uppers" (quote Tweek) I'll be using the AP Designs Jaguar (found here) the AP Jaguar is a large file (all 21 megs!! Shocked) but its framrate friendly (I find) and is great to fly.

Tweek or I may be setting up another thread so you can post what aircraft you want to fly and where it can be found, just to make it easier for us to organzie.

See you at the airshow!! Smiley

how about Aviano in Italy, its got a long runway and is also has quite a few taxiways which would be great for people to park ther aircraft up at and watch the display.

I think we've found a base now, Nemo, with scenery included Smiley

And cloud9flyer, I'll be flying that very Tucano Tongue By all means, if you want to fly it, do so aswell.

And possibly the Hurricane in some sort of BBMF display. Who knows.

Hey if me and my dad can get multiplayer working then we should have seperate displays back to back. Then we both do a couple formation flybys. It could be somethin like you go first and do your display then I do mine and then you take off and join me and we do a few passes. I'll pm you if it works out and we'll practice a lil bit.
cool?

Possibly, but I did have an idea of when you could display yours, when me and cspyro leave the airfield for a few minutes, for reasons to be explained later Smiley

I'm still not EXACTLY sure I'll make it. I'm gonna post a multiplayer session later as a test to see if it works (and once I tell my dad bout it).  So, we'll see how things work out

Well soon we'll make a thread where people can post whether they'll be flying/what they'll be flying. This way we can make some sort of programme, and if people drop out, it won't matter, as we won't be sticking to a time scale.

I think that when everything is sorted out, we need a post with a list of events, planes, where to download planes, and a sort of schedule.

As I said before, I will do a display with Duggy:  Just a sort of tribute to the DC-3

Since I'm now part of the *"modest system" crew I'll fly a Demo in the Long Island Classics Christen Eagle II NTA66 (framerate friendly Smiley). I've always had a penchant for fast-paced aerobatics 8).

SkyNoz: I'd be happy to fly a "warbird formation" with you in a T-28, T-6 or some other "warbird".

*While re-doing my PC I damaged my 6600GT, I'm on a GeForce FX5200 now and getting poor framerates again Roll Eyes.  I won't be getting another good graphics card for a while because of family health expenses, I've gone from financially well-off to "just getting by" as of late.

Cool!!!. yah be nice to put together something haveing to do with warbird-demonstration. Put toghter prolly a group of pilots of maybe less then 5 or so to do this. Wink

Another think to keep in mind, if theirs X amount of pilots that want to fly in this we got to keep in mind how much aircraft is needed for the pilots to see the aircraft properlly in FS. Wink Grin ....Maybe create a final page showing where to find all these aircraft....and a average airshow in the states consits of about 30 active pilot's and ex-amount of observers. Now the number of pilots could change if your gonna relate to the Paris Airshow etc. Wink Grin Grin

Well I may aswell reveal mine and cspyros plans for the end of the show then!

Basically, just before the penultimate display starts, me and cspyro will fly out to the closest airport to the location we'll be holding it at. Then, we'll run in after the display and perform a flypast in the Lancaster and Hurricane.

Of course, by all means, you can fly another warbird formation, but I'd like to be on the ground to see that!

I suppose the biggest formation would be good for the finale Smiley

Don't worry, I'll fit it all into some type of programme. Smiley

Oh, and I see many people have said to start another thread to say what aircraft to download for their display. It's ok, we were already planning that Wink

Well we are going to formulate a list somewhere midweek, so that downloading aircraft will be much easier, and so everything won't be scattered up in a thread. Is it just SimV, or can't you download from any FS site?

right then. First off you need WSP's server IP address (which is 66.147.177.125 I think, I can't remember off the yop of my head Cheesy)

Then you need to open the specific ports. WSP's server "Oceania 2" uses the defualt port 23456. The server "World Tour" uses 23457, and the server "Antarctica" uses port 23458.

I'll explain this is WAY more detail in a PM to you F3Hadlow, but right now I'm a bit tight for time, so I'll have to PM you tomorrow.

Hope this helps Smiley

This sounds great! Mind if I join in? I was thinking of adding a 'heavy' of some sorts (maybe the AN-225 fo shere size spectical?) for a low flypast, maybe in formation with two other planes?

Or, the other airshow classic that comes to mind is a (FSFrance) Concorde/Red Arrow formation. What do you think?

I think a 10 ship formation in multiplayer would be EXTREMELY hard to do. Sometimes I have trouble formating on people when they're lagging all over the place, and with 10 planes in view, I think you'd all need a very good PC, and a good connection. Though the AN225 with two other aircraft is a good idea.

Remember to sort these formations amongst yourselves. Me and cspyro only organise the event, and our own formation!

Good grief no! I didn't mean ALL the Red Arrows, just two maybe. As for formation flying itself, if i'm the heavy in the middle then thats fine! Note, the AN-225 is better on frames than the Concorde and is certainly easier to download for those without either plane. Maybe the organisers could let me know which they prefer.

Yeah, the AN-225 would work. When and if you confirm it with others, post in the other thread. Remember the deadline for stating what aircraft you will be flying is Wednesday, 20:00GMT.

I think the formation in the 9-ship pack is only the diamond.

We can always try  Grin
If you are planning on doing it ill fly one of the hawks for you ( only need 7 more red arrows and 1 for the concorde, the ninth red arrow isn't doing anything important in that pic  Wink)

This sounds like a good idea. About a year or so back someone tried to do this but it never happend. Ozzy and I were doing a Spitfire formation dispaly for that one. If I'm able to be there on Saturday I'd like to join in if that's OK. I'll be flying a Spitfire of some sort but I'll have to fly a few in practice first to find the best one but I would guess it will be the AH Seafire IIc. Smiley

OK, after much thought I've decided that as the show is at Yeovilton it would only be right to fly one of the RNHF aircraft that live there so I'll be displaying the awesome Hawker Sea Fury FB.11 Grin For anyone who still has not got this superb aircraft it's about half way down this page:
http://www.simviation.com/fs2002vintage26.htm
It runs just fine in FS9, better than in 2K2 in fact.
Off to practice some low level stuff now, see you Saturday Smiley
