Eventually, everyone will be running Vista Wink

I'll probably be using it within a couple years of it's release, after building a nice 64-bit system Wink

But personally, I don't see why MS is in a hurry to develop a new operating system. Unlike windows 95, 98, or ME, Windows XP seems to be keeping up with technology. Well, for the most part. As far as I know, XP seems to be compatible with most hardware, and for everything I run, it seems stable and efficient.

I will not buy it. I do not see the point.  A new OS for mega Euros on a computer that is two years old, when I will get it free, so to say, when I buy a new computer as the installed OS. Here in Germany you can buy a real top end machine for about 600 to 800 Euros depending on what you want. The competition here between some of the big boys and the "stack it high, sell it low" people, you will see real deals to be had. I have a P4, 2.4, 1Gig, 256MB 9250 Radeon, 80Gig and a 60Gig Hard drives as basic before I add the other bits that litter my desk. Good deals or not, there has to be a limit. New game or sim = new computer, just pandas to Microsoft’s behind the scenes deals with dark shady people from various  computer companies (conspiracy theory, conspiracy theory).
Seriously though, I will test FSX out on my machine. If it looks good and the frame rate is acceptable without Vista, then I will buy it. If not, then I will stay with FS9 until this computer runs dry.

Matt

PS As for try it before I buy it, a point of clarity here before I get the inevitable pirate police onto me. All top games and sims, it is possible to hire them from the local video rental place.

Probably I will. After having upgraded. Which will happen sometime next year (mid 2007).

I'm not going to lose sleep on it. Wink

No doubt I will buy a computer with it on, making sure it can run fsx to its full ability. Otherwise I wont bother.

The point about getting it 'free' with a new PC is a very good one and thats why I voted no. Upto now, i've always 'updated' bits as i've gone along. I could not see the point in buying a new case, keyboard, mouse, monitor, CD drive, etc. when all I wanted was a bit more performance. In fact I still have the original CD Rom drive in my present machine from my original PC in 1999!

However, with Vista on the horizon, I may well look at a new complete system. For the cost of a new motherboard, procesor, OS and DVD drive would be more than a complete package, especialy if it comes without a monitor.

I'm already planing on it. I've been looking at what it would cost to upgrade my current machine (new MoBo and CPU) and it's really not that much. When is Vista supposed to come out anyway?

I dunno about buying a brand-new MS OS... I'll probably wait and see how it turns out. Same for FS10.
Frankly, if I can figure out a way to run MS FS with Linux, I might go that route. I keep hearing good things about Linux...
whatever; for now I still need to upgrade my rig to get the most out of FS9.  Roll Eyes

Watched the Gates webcast last night and I have to say that the MS vision of the future and the role of Vista in it is truely awesome. Watching Gates using and demonstrating the various integrated elements of the 'digital decade' apparently without a script was very impressive  because he had complete control and understanding and it all came across totally naturally. A man totally involved in the heart of his business, and I never thought I'd be saying that.

Vista is much more than just another OS and as a member of the older generation I'd say to all you younger guys out there - find out more. You're the people who will be using this new technology and who will be reaping the benefits in your lives. Do yourselves a favour and get your heads out of gaming just for a little while and take a look at the big picture.

You might be surprised. I was.

Lets see, I'm finally figuring out XP after building a "new" Socket A based machine, which only took me 4-5 months to sort out and get up and running as the #1 computer at home. (OK, I'm slow, but I am an official old fart so there). FX-10 and Vista will probably wait till mid '07 after I rectify my error and get an Athlon 64 mobo and cpu. Not to mention a 19" or better LCD display as well.  ???

I'm sure I'll be running Vista eventally, but not right away.  I'll probably wait a year or so after it is released (I won't be upgrading my computer for at least that long).  So, I'll switch at my next major upgrade as long as no major problems with Vista are discovered.

I did have the chance to use Longhorn, was probably a version before it got "redone." Its gonna be a good OS with much more features. Can't wait to see what it has to offer up.

What is special about DX10 is it offeres new graphical advances and capabilities. Grass and shurbs can be dynamic with a player, so instead of walking throw a shurb the shrub moves. Lighting is much improved as I think you can see on Fs10 screenshots. It basically allows for everything we have now better and even some new things to make a game look that much more real. Honestly I am looking forward to it more than Vista.

Also I read Vista will have an all in one package with "all versions" you just need to choose what features you want and unlock them via activation codes. Good move Microsoft for the consumer and especially the pirate who will have that code lock system cracked in under a week.

And no FS10 will not require Vista, and DX10 will not require XP. I can say this because if FS10 only ran on Vista and DX10 only worked on Vista Fs10 would go the way of CFS3 and no one would buy/use it because they did not want to upgrade. M$ would make no money and drop the series for probably a few years untill most people migraded to a more compatible system of DX10. Thook at the past, most if not all dx versions are backwards compatible(with maybe some OS patching) but still compatible. I think they say it will maximise your experience on Vista because it is being Devloped for Vista, Uses DX10 a Vista native, and Vista offers 64bit suppot. If FS10 is 64bit enabled it will be god like.
