No, Not At First FS2004 Is Still Good Smiley

If I'll want to fly FSX I will have to buy a new system and I don't have the funds for that.  My comp is now 26 months old and I'm quite sure that won't be good enough for FSX Smiley

Only right away if the FS9 aircraft are useable. Then later on. Have too many aircraft with too much time invested to go crazy on another if I can't use my old a/c.

I voted No, FS9 is still good but if MS do the special 'trade in' discount like they've done before i'd be more tempted.

I will most likely by it THE DAY it comes out.  I really dont care about all this 'my pc isnt good enough' or 'fs9 stuff wont work'.  I still would want it because within 2 months of its release, Im sure that there will be a gagillion addons for it that all surpass what we have now.

And, if for nothing else, at least to further support microsoft for providing us with such an awesome game

Unless I hear something absoultely crushing about it before it's released, yes, on the day of release.

That doesn't mean I'll abandon 9 for it, tho, if the planes aren't compatable... Too many good (superb) planes for 9 for me to ditch.

I'll wait for reviews, but not reviews in magazines and tech-news/gaming sites, I want the reviews from you guys. It means more to me if it comes from people I sort of know, plus you guys all have different systems and different ways of flying (airline, fighters, GA, ect..). After that, I will make a decision.

Like I waited for a year or so for FS9, I will do the same for FS10.

Plus when I do eventually get FS10, I want to have a top of the line PC to replace the one I have now, with the upgraded Windows Vista, and everything needed to make FS10 run flawlessly. Also by then there should be a good number of add-ons people have created for it

I will buy and use it, but not immediately.

Since every and any news about FSX points only toward how GRAPHICALLY great it will be, I feel authorized to think will then be the same reheated soup we have had since FS98, only with a better outward aspect than the previous version (as always), where FS deserves other and more deep steps ahead about the SIMULATION.

In the end I think I'll buy and install it... when I can find it for less than the 99.90 € it will cost to those who will want it immediately (that was the price here in Italy of FS9 when it went out). When freeware planes for it will be available, so I won't have to use the poor imitation of a simulated airship that are the defaults. When I'm sure it's a good way to spend my money (this implies that it has to work fine). And, more importantly, after I will upgrade.

And seen that M$ always said that FSX will be out at the end of this year... I think I'll buy and install it at the end of 2007. Tongue

Commoner
Try and get a new PC on the NHS.........You could argue it is hand to eye coordination training, keeps the mind sharp, and limits the drooling. Would keep the joints in the upper body supple, stop you from falling down the stairs, thus needing that new hip and taking up a hospital bed. You could save them 1000's if they would only lay out a couple of 100 in advance. If this is not a sure way to a new computer, I don't know what would be. OR become a council tax rebel. Do your month inside and still be a winner, come out to that nice new PC you bought before you went down..............unless your house has been turned over by a "hoodie" in your absence Grin Grin

My hardware situation will dictate whether I buy it or not.  It is my hope that in summer, when I don't have to deal with oil heating expenses that enough disposable cash will be freed up for me to upgrade to 64 bit technology.  I can trade up my components at the shop I do business with.  That would mean for me at least I trade my motherboard and 2800xp chip and 6600GT up to no less than a 3200 64 board/processor and a 256 meg 6800.  I already did my research with my shop and I could do that trade up for slightly less than $300 USD.  The tower, hard drive and everything else I have will work fine.  If I manage that then I will make my FSX decision based on what you all are saying about it.  Likely it will be under the tree next year if I want it.

Firstly, it's not FS2006.

Secondly, I won't be buying it for probably two years unless backwards compatibility is perfect. I don't like having FS2002 planes not working right all the time in FS2004, so unless they have FSX closer to 2004 than FS2004 was to FS2002 then I will be waiting awhile for freeware modelers and such to catch up.

Thirdly, I need to build a nice gaming computer first.

Good morning to all you Guys and Ladies,    I keep seeing the cost factor in this forum.   I like the way "Commoner" views things.   I too will be 72 this month and in the same type of boat - - ahem - -  plane. Grin    Good for you "the-ex-pat" about the drooling plus several other good points.  I'm going to figure the approx cost of a new PC and all the extras needed such as "VISTA" as approx  $1800.00.    I'm sure I'm low on this cost but it is a good starting point.  Here's my thinking on this.  $1800.00  divided into 365 days comes to $4.93  each day.  This cost $2.47 an hour if you "FLY" for two hours a day  [some more and some less] .   Take this a step more - - - say for two years and the cost drops down to  half that.   You get the picture.   And to think this is the approx cost of the most enjoyable and educational "hobbies" in the world for " US ".   To have and to see the whole world from the  comfort of our homes.  Many will rightly say " but I don't have $1800.00" .     I'm in that "boat " also.   I do have good credit and can buy this on a very low " APR  3% " until the  "loan" is paid off.  I'm sure others have different ways by saving / extra small jobs , etc-etc.    All this for $1.24 for two years - - - WOW.     Cheer-up  - today is the first day of the rest of your life.   Enjoy each one of them.  caveman

Dead on Caveman. I am retired and 62. I have been upgrading for the past several months and think I am ready to go.

Install Vista, and FSX and I will beta the heck out of it. Had to laugh at that statement though, how long was FS9 out before we saw an update for it.

Am afraid some people are going to have a long wait before they fly the new Sim.

I reckon I would have to spend £100s on upgrading my current PC. I'll also wait until it comes out in England.  Wink

Hopefully in FSX they will make the ATC more realistic in that ATC will separate traffic enroute.  I have been run over by other airplanes enroute and it takes forever for AI traffic to clear the runway.  To add more AI traffic I use Just Flight, Traffic 2004.  It makes FS9 more realistic especially at busy airports, LAX, DFW, ORD, SFO.  When FSX comes out I know what I will be looking for at Xmas. Won't be buying it until I can afford a system that'll run it at full settings. In other words, I'll get it by the time FS2025 comes out... Roll Eyes Undecided

If you wait a few months the price will probably halve, so that is what I'll be doing.
