My hardware situation will dictate whether I buy it or not.  It is my hope that in summer, when I don't have to deal with oil heating expenses that enough disposable cash will be freed up for me to upgrade to 64 bit technology.  I can trade up my components at the shop I do business with.  That would mean for me at least I trade my motherboard and 2800xp chip and 6600GT up to no less than a 3200 64 board/processor and a 256 meg 6800.  I already did my research with my shop and I could do that trade up for slightly less than $300 USD.  The tower, hard drive and everything else I have will work fine.  If I manage that then I will make my FSX decision based on what you all are saying about it.  Likely it will be under the tree next year if I want it.

Rocket_Bird, this is Microsoft that we are talking about here. A few weeks for the bugs to be made clear............Now that would be progress.  Grin Grin

Firstly, it's not FS2006.

Secondly, I won't be buying it for probably two years unless backwards compatibility is perfect. I don't like having FS2002 planes not working right all the time in FS2004, so unless they have FSX closer to 2004 than FS2004 was to FS2002 then I will be waiting awhile for freeware modelers and such to catch up.

Thirdly, I need to build a nice gaming computer first.

Good morning to all you Guys and Ladies,    I keep seeing the cost factor in this forum.   I like the way "Commoner" views things.   I too will be 72 this month and in the same type of boat - - ahem - -  plane. Grin    Good for you "the-ex-pat" about the drooling plus several other good points.  I'm going to figure the approx cost of a new PC and all the extras needed such as "VISTA" as approx  $1800.00.    I'm sure I'm low on this cost but it is a good starting point.  Here's my thinking on this.  $1800.00  divided into 365 days comes to $4.93  each day.  This cost $2.47 an hour if you "FLY" for two hours a day  [some more and some less] .   Take this a step more - - - say for two years and the cost drops down to  half that.   You get the picture.   And to think this is the approx cost of the most enjoyable and educational "hobbies" in the world for " US ".   To have and to see the whole world from the  comfort of our homes.  Many will rightly say " but I don't have $1800.00" .     I'm in that "boat " also.   I do have good credit and can buy this on a very low " APR  3% " until the  "loan" is paid off.  I'm sure others have different ways by saving / extra small jobs , etc-etc.    All this for $1.24 for two years - - - WOW.     Cheer-up  - today is the first day of the rest of your life.   Enjoy each one of them.  caveman

Dead on Caveman. I am retired and 62. I have been upgrading for the past several months and think I am ready to go.

Install Vista, and FSX and I will beta the heck out of it. Had to laugh at that statement though, how long was FS9 out before we saw an update for it.

Am afraid some people are going to have a long wait before they fly the new Sim.

I reckon I would have to spend £100s on upgrading my current PC. I'll also wait until it comes out in England.  Wink
