Woodhouse I hope you a Happy year.I have been very busy lately in the real World. But the last time I read one of your thread you you metion that CFS1 had a World map. I have looked for it and have never found it.
If you found it please tell me where is. I love CFS1 since it was my first Sim in this hooby.
Your secound comment you said that I desperately wanted CFS3 to build a Pacific Theater addon. The truth is that I"am very happy with the develpment of the Pacific Theater and its developers of CFS2.
All I was doing was giving a subgestion on what I thought would improve or make CFS3 better. You see I like diversity in my Sims and I believe other do to. That was it. CFS3 is still a good Simulator but I do not think they the developers will ever do the Pacific Theater. Thats fine with me since I have CFS2 and Pacific Fighter to represent that theater and fly in.
Where else can you fly a B6N2 Tarzan and D4Y2 Suisa but in CFS2.
I subgest you fy in CFS2 as well since that will give you more experience in flying different planes that other wise you would not bee able to fly.
This does not mean that you need to dish CFS3. As matter of fact I just bought a new video card and I cannot wait to upgrade it so I can the best effect from this Sim as well.
I have always gave the advice to whom ever read my post that the best way to enjoy the World war two Sim World is by flying in most of the major sim available. They are all great in there own way.
I hope you do not get offended by any way. This post was meant only as friendly exchange of ideas.

Just to but in here. I don't know about a world map for CFS1 but it has generic scenery outside the default theatre covering the whole world. This is by no means accurate & you would need to install 3rd party scenery like Bill Potvin's Korea which is proper CFS1 mesh or use the default FS98 scenery for a backdrop for 3rd party FS98 & CFS1 airfields.
Much the same can be said for CFS2 as from what I remember it only has airfields in the default Pacific area & the rest of the world is by no means accurate. Developers like Steve McClelland have done excellent mesh & airfields covering most of Europe & the Pacific areas like Japan & Korea outside the default theatre.

To find the world map go to the top down view and zoom all the way out. You should see a globe and you can go anywhere you like there. It's as much of a world map as CFS2 has and as Hagar says, needs a fair bit of modifying before it becomes accurate.

Been there done that. I started with CFS1 when that was fairly new, then moved on to CFS2 then on to CFS3. While CFS2 has a lot to say for its self I have always believed in CFS3's potential and unlike most I've never really been dissapointed with it.

Patience. The developers are only just getting their heads round CFS3 and with MAW they are now doing something never before done in the history of CFS. That is a fully comprehensive meditteranean campaign/theatre. I'm sure someone will do a pacific theatre eventually. But as of this moment almost every major name in CFS development is busy with MAW.
Finally, it's Woodlouse. Not Woodhouse.

I did not know about CFS1 World map. I wonder why they not do the same with CFS3.
Hadgar CFS2 did come with European landing points as airbases.

Not sure where you got them but they're not default. I just checked my fresh install of CFS2 & it has no European airfields listed on the Free Flight menu or in the Mission Builder.

I couldn't agree more. When all is said & done it's just a game.

As you can imagine, calculating the bullet stream of moving guns in a real world coordinates based environment costs a lot of processor power as the calculations for each bullet are different at basically every point in the world.
You can see that in CFS1 and 2, the bullet stream of angled guns never looks right and that's actually the reason why there are no player-controlled turret guns in the older builds.
CFS3, like all other non M$ combat flight sims uses a "sandbox" system to overcome this situation:
A flat comparably small map where coordinates "stretching" is not so noticeable, in favor of accurately working guns.

That and giving us only a map of europe has allowed them to make the terrain accurate enough to be recognisable. Something you can barely even begine to do with the whole world.

Actually if you go into the mission builder and click the "create new mission" button in the top left and corner and select the european theatre from the list of avaliable areas you will see airfields marked out. However they are little more than symbols as there is nothing at any of the locations. My belief is that it's left over from CFS1 but by no means is it a bad thing.

Shows how rusty I am. I had an idea they were there somewhere. I suspect you're correct & these are simply the locations of the CFS1 airfields with no runways or accurate scenery.

Took me a couple of minutes to find them. Should do this simming lark more often.

Ahem, M$ added the CFS1 runway locations to the airbases.dat.
If someone bothers to remember I made them accessable from the ingame menu and someone else added NDB's and stuff to it.
Should be available somewhere here at Simviation and Netwings IIRC.

But it was so long ago. I can barely remember what I had for breakfast.

If I remember well. Its been a while but if I recall correctly Mathias also made some nice Med Airfields for us on is Malta Campaings in his Website. As a matter of fact I place them on my Med Theater CFS2 install.
Mathias how where you able to diactivate the Pacific Theater airbases. If I remember correctly the Pacific airbases did not show up in your airbase list and program still fuction correctly.
Thank you for the information
