My new 1% F4F-4 Wildcat is a dream. I've got a pilot through the first five campaign missions in the Pacific Theatre.

I'm having problems starting the darn thing! Sometimes it fires up on pressing 'E', mostly though it splutters and dies. 'Can't start'.

I have cowl flaps open, both magnetos on, mixture rich, all the stuff on p. 41 of the manual... What am I doing wrong?

If you are using the engine control pop-up push & hold the red starter switch. Helps to crack the throttle some.

...

If you are using the "E" key without the pop-up, just hold it in till the engine catches.

Excellent. Bear, many thanks. Works real good. I no longer need to hang around the end of the carrier trying to start my engine as the rest of the boys fly off to glory!
