Ok, I'm looking for a new plane for GA use... I'd like something in the four seat range, maybe six at most, high wing, retractable gear are a plus but by no means essential, not too complex, and with at least a basic autopilot. I'm thinking something in a Cessna, but I'm open to suggestions.

I'm currently looking at the Carenado Skylane 182... The autopilot is pretty basic, but it would be enough, and the price is right... I'm actually thinking of picking it up in a two-pack with a Beechcraft Mentor...

But I'm open to suggestions. I've looked at the FSD 337 Skymaster, but it seems like a little more than I'm after for a GA plane... Pretty exotic. I'd like something along the lines of "practical plane that a non-rich private pilot could own, at least off the used market".

I suggest either The Dreamfleet2000 B58 or A36. Best bang for your buck!

Get the Baron, Drake is right.

However, if you get the Carenado candy which is great flight models and visuals, then make sure to get the GNS430X or GNS530X avionics packages from www.reality-xp.com, and the Weather radar which is also a must for GA flight.
The nice thing about the Baron is that it comes with these things and you save yourself a good deal of money on the Reality-XP stuff, which would otherwise cost you another $20+ dollars.

I might get the Baron at some point, I've looked at it... But for now, it's more than I wanted for my purposes... I went with the 182. I wanted something smaller and simpler. It'll have to wait until I get a couple other planes first, though... The 260 from RAS, and maybe the FSD 337 and (hopefully) the 3 pack of planes RAS is supposed to release soon. I don't fly twins an awful lot.

As for the Reality XP gauges... For a simmer on a budget at the moment, spending money on gauges is... a sorta rough prospect. I've looked at them, but at the moment, I'll have to pass. Besides, I know absolutely jack squat about configuring anything in FS that requires more than Paintshop Pro skills or checking radio boxes within the game... Adding and removing gauges is considerably beyond me.

Its not hard to install...

Wink

Reality XP is not exactly gauges, they make for one a realistic GPS (which the default one is only to a limited extent) and most importantly a weather radar, which no default or freeware aircraft has. The Jetline series are gauges, but I dont have any of those I dont need them.

PS I have the Realair SF260, a very good buy especially since Belgian liveries are included!  Grin

Eh. I rely on the decades old weather radar... Checking the forcast before I fly  Grin For the type of flying I do, it's enough... A weather radar would be wasted on me. The default GPS, again, is enough for me at the moment. Maybe in the future, but not right now.

On the other hand, the Flight Line gauges HAVE interested me, because I use the gauges much more fully than I do the higher end avionics Wink But I don't know how I would use them...

Be carefull......I think that you might want to read this......I'm not sure if it only applies to the 206, Or all of his planes?
I'm still waiting on the long promised weather radar fix for the PMDG 737.....

You're right Cody, that C206 looks great, but its basically a 6 person version of the C182. Even the virtual cockpits look very alike.

By the way Cody, if you own the RealityXP WX500 V1.0 or later, then you can already get that Weather Radar Fix.
Its on Avsim in the forums, theres a huge thread about it. Actually I should try install it now. Smiley

I'm still gonna wait a bit......I know someone here did it a couple months back....

I wouldnt' pass up the deal on the 182 and 180.....
The 206 is one fine bird. All around good performer.
But those 2 are priced right. And they both, make excellent cross country machines.
As Caranedo continues to make airplanes each one gets better......But yet stay the same.
He just makes a good basic solid 1970's-80's general aviation planes.
